Motability Questions...

Hiya,

Just wondering with Motability… if you want a driving assessment to try out hand controls do you ask for that first and then pick a car after??

Also… how long did it take for peoples cars to come… ive heard it can be months sometimes??

And…do you just go to the dealer and apply??

Want to go for one in about a months time but would be interested to know a little more about the process.

Hi

I went for an assessment before starting to learn to drive, in order to try out hand controls. They had three different types at the place where I went, and really valued the chance to have a go first. In terms of picking the car though, you do that through the dealer. They should have a motability specialist, and you tell them what controls you need.

I can’t remember everything that happened though when getting a car for the first time. I know I had to inform the DWP to inform them that I’d be getting a motability car, so that they knew to stop sending the DLA payments to me.

As to the waiting time, that mostly depends on the car you go for, and things like if you want a specific colour or any optional extras. In my case, once the car arrived from the factory the controls were fitted fairly quickly - just a couple of weeks I think.

I’d just give motability a call though if I were you. They’re always helpful whenever I phone up.

Sorry I can’t remember any more about how it works

Hiya

Try the regional driving assessment centre 0845 337 1540 or www.rdac.co.uk.

There is a centre in Brum that you could go to,you can go there and try all sorts out so you know what is best for you .

Cheers… really worried now… lol

Just filled in all my paperwork to get my name and address changed on my license, and am throwing in a medical questionnaire too to inform them of my diagnosis… gonna have to wait FOREVER to get my license back whilst they do all their checks!!!

Not even gunna be able to try and get a motability car until i get everything back :- ( LONG!!

Hi

There’s no reason you can’t do things to get the ball rolling - visit dealers, ask all the questions you need etc. Obviously you’ll not be able to sign for the new car until the licence is back, but your hands aren’t completely tied until then.
