lumber puncture result

hi everyone how long should i wait for neurologist to give me lp results after shes received them ? i had it done a month ago

Mine came by letter about two weeks later

im having a whole carry on getting mine and ive been waiting 4 days now for a different neurologist to call me about it its ridiculous, did your come from neurologist ?

kizzy did i read somewhere you are from Glasgow? If so, then that is the exact experience i had with the southern general with my results. I had to chase mine, eventually she told me they were ready and sent them to GP, where i had to make an apoointment to get them. Keep phoning the neuro secretary and your gp until someone gives you answers- its the only way!

hiya sunshinedays yes im fromglasgow and dealing with the southern general, the secretary has passed everything to another neurologist ive been waiting 4 days for him to call him with results ive been told he will, it isnt a german woman neurologist you were dealing with was it ?

No, it wasnt- i cant remember her name (it must be written down somewhere…) im under NHS Lanarkshire at Hairmyres but Neuro splits time between Southern General and Hairmyres, so had my LP done there. I had to phone both his secretary at Hairmyres and Southern General and then my GP to make an appointment to get results, then when i got them i had to chase Neuro to explain them (mine were positive!), honestly just keep pestering and keep phoning, have you been in touch with GP? They should also have a copy of results. My GP receptionist told me there was ‘no action’ from LP results at first, but booked an appointment to talk through, only to be told by GP then that they were positive, so had to go back and ask neuro to phone me, which he did, and subsequently booked another MRI, which lead to my diagnosis- my point here is that if i hadn’t been proactive, prodding at every step there is a chance i wouldn’t yet have been diagnosed, which is pretty scary when you think about it.

hiya well ive now got results there negative for obands and discharged, im raging that i can just be dischrged when i cant walk i didnt go there asking to get tested for ms they said it to me, my mri said at least 15 lesions multifocal and subcortical and at least 3 in periventricles so thats at least 18 lesions and im being discharged just because negative lp im trying hard not to cry and i should be happy but im not im stuck with a wheelchair and no answers, sorry for the rant x

oh gosh, did they offer any other explaination for what it could be? Have they not offered any more appointments with neuro or anything?!

nope nothing but the secretary says she is asking for me to get appointment with neurology again as i wasnt able to get some of my history across and also ongoing symptoms and shes assured me it wont be a locum this time but one of the ones that actually based at southern general full time, she says if she goes gets the go ahead she will phone me on monday and give me the first available appointment she can shes been lovely all the way through this

I had my Lumbar Puncture done in January. Still haven’t got my results.

Kizzy I hope you get an appointment through soon. I know how frustrating waiting for things to happen can be!

hi happymaz thats terrible have you contacted them ? hope you get an answer soon

Thanks Kizzy - I’ve contacted the neurologist’s secretary and left a message on her answering machine. And I went to my GP to have a good old whinge about it. I’m just trying to be patient! Not succeeding, mind you!

youve waited 4 months i think thats very patient id have cracked by now, hopefully your gp will chase them up too, i feel bad for you waiting thatl ong i hope you get yr results next week because they must have them already

Kizzy37 I just thought I should reply to your kind message: my results came through and (reading between the lines) seem to be OK: no oligoclonal bands or anything sinister to report. Going back to the neurologist next week (a full eight months after the LP) to see what he has to say. I fear he may well tell me to go away and be patient and see what develops, but I’m trying to keep an open mind!

What’s new with you?

I’m only a nurse but I would say there is NO WAY they wouldn’t have results back after only a few days. Some tests are sent overseas but even then, the results can be e mailed.

Hi Minstrel101 - I think I just got lost in the system. It wouldn’t be the first time! Although I went to see my GP a couple of weeks ago about something else and asked if he’d seen my results and his computer said ‘no’, so I don’t know quite what has gone on. Fortunately my appointment has come around much more quickly than I thought it would, so I’ll know soon enough!

Hi sorry for late reply I’ve not been on, glad you got yr appointment happy maz how did you get on ? So I’m now going to see another neurologist on Thursday coming after waiting 7 months and kicking up a fuss, I was great for a while there full of energy and get up and go but I hit a brick wall again so hoping this doctor will repeat mri or something

Blimey kizzy37, no wonder you were kicking up a fuss. My appointment isn’t until 30th August, so I’ve got to wait a bit longer. Hope your neurologist moves things along for you!

yea i hope so its tomorrow at 3,30 i cant wait but dreading it too incase i get the brush off , thankfully yours isnt too far away either

Ah! Tomorrow is GCSE Maths results day for me! I’ll keep one set of fingers crossed for me, and one set crossed for you. I really hope you don’t get the brush off!
