LP rsults are in/Rizzo

Hi guys. Got 2 letters in todays post from NHS.

  1. Recent bowel screening test came back fine. Phew!

  2. LP results…from what I can gather, it is normal. Rizzo, can you interpret for me please?

CSF protein was normal at 0.33g/L. and CSFglucose normal at 3.9 mmol/L.

CSF was lactate was normal at 1.5 mmol/L.

Mocroscopy showed 2 x WCC, no RBC or growth anfter 2 days incubation. Gram film showed no organisms.

It was also tested for olicoglonal bands at Birmingham. It is commented that CSF oligoclonal protein not detected.

That`s it folks! I have an appointment on Friday, with a different neuro…I think this one will be number 14!!! And in 14 years!

If, as I now reckon, I dont have MS, I will be offered genetic testing for HSP.

Some days I dont think I want it, others I do!

See my pm Poll. Btw - good news about the bowel screening. Hurrah! Love Teresa xx

Oh blimey Poll. Don’t know what to say. I felt sure you’d get a positive.

Will you go for the genetic testing? Very hard decision. Let’s hope that neuro no.14 will be able to find some answers.

Thinking of you hon,

Sorry yes, great news re the bowel screening! I meant the LP of course.

Hi Poll So pleased on the bowel results. Another quandary you are in with LP result though. Thinking of you… luv Linda x

Sorry you are still going through these tests Polly, very pleased that bowel screening came back clear.

Love Wendy x

Good luck on Friday, Poll.

You’ve seen so many neuro’s! - have you had to travel to different areas to see them?

What a lot you have been through!

Don’t know anything about HSP so am going to look it up and what the testing involves.

Best wishes

Teresa.x

Hi T, hospitals I have had to go to are Wakefield, Dewsbury, Halifax and Huddersfield.

I sure am foxing a lot of well qualified bods!

Cheers for your support.

Out of my comfort zone with this stuff Poll, sorry, but it does all sound normal including the WBC (did you mean WBC?), RBC and oligoclonal protein (also known as bands) - so negative for MS. So sorry it didn’t provide any obvious answers :frowning: Karen x

Can we make you a ‘honary’ member of the MSS forum Poll? - lf they discover you have a very rare condition - which it does seem to be going that way - you might end up on your own on a forum and we can’t have that.

So all together – WE WANT POLL - WE WANT POLL

Hi Poll

Good news on the bowel screening, but not so good for the lp.

Perhaps this neuro on Friday can come up with some answers

for you, thinking of you (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))

Hi Poll, There is confusion about by diagnosis too. Neuro 1 says not MS but possible RM - radiation myelopathy (from previous treatment for cancer. 2nd Neuro says definately not RM but possible MS. I have a clear LP and one lesion in cervical spine area. Symtoms first appeared 22 years ago, 6 months after radiation treatment in neck area. Main symtoms now are spasticity is right leg and brisk reflexes in both legs. Irriable bowel too.

I have thought of HSP too but not mentioned it to doctors. My mother has all her life had problems with bladder and bowels. She has weak ankles havingg gone over on them frequently and is now going deaf!. These all seem to be symptoms of HSP.

I am interested to know if your MRIs have ever showed anything and how did your symptoms start etc.

I hope that we both eventually get answers.

Take Care and Thanks

Moyna

Hi Moyna, ta for your reply love.

My story in a nutshell;

walking difficulty began when I was 45 (I am newly 60). Left leg felt like a wooden plank…left foot drop, many trips and falls.

spasms in arms and legs, bladder and bowel accidents

Part time wheelie user 2000. Full time 2004

Had 4 MRIs, 2 LPs, 2 EMGs, VEP, loads of blood tests.

1999 - 2003…possible MS

2003 -2010…95% liklihood of PPMS

2010…HSP…no family link found

2011…not HSP…probable PPMS

2012…Not MS…spastic paraparesis, cause unknown

In 2011 Neuro showed me 3 blobs on cervical MRI, from 2008 MRI, which he thought had been missed by previous neuro!

2012…different neuro showed me 2008 MRI…blobs had disappeared ???

There you have it hun. Watch this space for next thrilling instalment!

Hi Pat, the Teresas, Wendy, LInda (think I`ve mentioned you all, sorry if I missed anyone), thankyou so much for your kind replies and support, as always.

If I have MS or HSP or galloping dogrot, you`ll be hearing more from me…this lady wont go quietly…I guess you already know that!

much luv Pollxxx

Hi Poll,

Thanks for all that. You have definately been through the mill honey. I was 45 too when right leg started to go heavy after walking the dog. Now at 48 it is heavy all the time, spastic calf, quads and dropped foot! Am about to start a chemotherapy drug for bowel cancer which is supposed to be good for radiation myelopathy. Treatment is given for RM in the states but not approved here which is why I have to pay aprox £5000 for it.

Thanks and keep on posting as I enjoy reading them.

Hi Poll,

I really feel for you, I bet you feel like you are going around in circles. I for one felt sorry for myself when I was diagnosed with ms but at least I found out quickly, it must be a nightmare being thrown from pillar to post.

Thank goodness you are such a positive person, many wouldn’t be able to deal with this with the attitude you seem to have.

Take care

Suex

Hi Poll, that’s really good news about the bowel screening, and it seems you got that result fairly quickly too. As for the lp, well, you’ll just have to wait and se what new neuro says. Is it possible you still have ms even with a negative lp (2negative lp’s now isn’t it)? As for testing for hp, only you can decide, I’m not going to go into the ins and outs of it because I’m sure youve been through it all I your head so many times. Hang on in there, you are better of than before because you have now done the lp and had the result. Hope the neuro appointment goes well. Cheryl:-)

Hi Cheryl and cheers for your reply.

Yes, some say it is still possible to have a negative lp and have ms.

Yep, wait and see what neuro no 14 says on friday!
