Hi everyone.. just posting on here to see if anyone has been through the same problem, .. the DVLA have taken away my driving licence, I was maybe a bit too honest when filling out the form to renew my 3 year licence. For example, does MS cause fatigue?, yes it does.. Does MS cause limb weakness? Yes it does.. so they took my licence off me!.. I know I have to fill in a D1 form, etc etc, but I’ve not seen my consultation in over 3 years, it’s also near impossible to actually see my GP face to face, unless I wait 2 months, and even though the MS nurses are lovely, it’s almost impossible to see one of them face to face. How do I sort out the ‘medical’ side of the questionnaire?.. cutting a long story short, I have PPMS, I was diagnosed 4 years ago, I lost my job on safety grounds, I stopped driving my car about 3 years ago because I need an automatic car ( which would be easier for me), or an adapted car.. I just don,t have the finances to do this… so I have to rely on my husband to drive me anywhere. But, we are not spring chickens, and anything could happen, so I would need a driving licence… has anybody else been through this, because it seems like everything is against me.. losing my job, nightmare, claiming PIP, nightmare.. and now losing the one thing that could give me that tiny bit of independence, ..taking away my licence.

Sorry to hear this.
It is possible to get your driving licence back but, the DVLA make it as difficult as possible. They really are frustratingly incompetent . They will lose important paperwork, send out wrong forms, make errors, pass the buck, shirk responsibilities, add charges wherever they think they can. My advice to anyone is to never deal with them until it’s absolutely necessary and you’ve properly thought it over for a good long while.

Is there something about if you lose your driving licence in the uk for a year or more you have to do the test again. Might be misremembering that but worth looking into.
If i am right you’d too get on the ball Netty, as Jon say’s they are incompetent and hard too work with

Cheers Mac, I’ve printed off the medical questionnaire, and I’ll have theDVLA D1 form this afternoon.. so I’m sorting things out straightaway. What gets me is on the original form , to just renew my license, I ticked that I would only be driving an automatic car, or adapted.. I just don’t get it
A difficult situation. I would suggest you think about what would actually work for you. With the advent of hybrid cars many cars on the road today are automatic. You still need to be able to reliably move your foot between accelerator and brake even when you are tired. The fitter of hand controls was reluctant to fit them unless I had had an assessment. Normally this is done at specialist centres but I achieved it via a specialist driving instructor with a couple of lessons including a comprehensive assessment including a wide variety of roads including a motorway. They still required the seemingly meaningless medical reports from people who had never seen me or many years in the past. When the license finally appears it has detailed specifications on the controls you need to have fitted to any car you drive. These are coded on the license. It is a good idea to keep your hand in driving occasionally.
