Looking for suggestions for equipment to help…..

The fingers in my left hand are bent into a claw. Is there a splint or something I could buy to straighten them?
Also is there some kind of contraption I can use to lift my feet, one at a time, on to the bed etc?

Hi Flowerpot

If you have an OT they can point you in the right direction to have a splint made to fit you.

Also not sure what they are called but there is a thing with a handle on and a place for your foot to go in so you can pick it up (hope that makes sense).

If you don’t have an OT phone your local adult services and ask to speak to one.

Hope this suggestion helps you. Pam x

When i worked in a care home we often use to use a rolled up bandage the the client to hold to stop finger nails from cutting into the palm. There use to be a piece of equipment to help get legs into bed, but someone else would need to do it for you. In my area we have an intergrated neurology team, and you would request assistance from the OT who would be able to assist you with these issues. I hope this helps you

Hi
I had the same issue with my right hand.

MS Nurse referred me to OT and they cut a plastic splint that they heat and mould to fit which keeps the fingers straighter through the night. Attached with Velcro.
I’ve been using it for 2 years and it prevents things getting worse.

Best of luck

Thank you so much. I’ve just requested referral to community OT.

I try to use everyday items to open my hand things like a bottle or flattening my hand over my knee. As for lifting my feet there are little stirrup things with handles but I mostly grab a handful of sock and heave away.
Good luck
Mick

Hi

I’ve just remembered my OT referred me to a hand therapy nurse and it was her that made my splint.

Thanks
