Looking for some Advice please

Hi people I am really sorry if I done the post in the wrong forum. My mum as had MS now for 16 years. She has got to the point were the doctors have said there is nout more that they can do. She is taking DULOXETINE 60mg BETAHISTINE HCL 16mg and also VESICARE 10mg. She is also taking C0-CODAMOL 30/500 for the pain. But over the last year things have gone really bad for my mum and it is very much a big strugle for her to cope with evreyday things. The bit of advice i’m looking for is what else can she take the painkiller she is taking really is not doing much for her and the doctor said the is the strongest thing to take. I ain’t no expert in opium painkillers as i have never had them my self so i really don’t no how strong they are. But there most be more things that the doctor can gave her. If anyone can help it will be a great help so i can ask the doctor on Friday. Thank you

hiya

pain killers will not touch her nerve pain. amitriptyline is a common one and works well for some (i have used it with good effect). it may mean changing/discussing her current antidepressant.

ellie (ps i dont think the dr is telling the truth! good luck-there ARE other options…)

Gaz2014,

As well as trying all the medication etc. I would always tell anyone with or associated with MS to read ‘Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis’ by Prof. George Jelinek. I have had MS for 16 years and read the book and implemented the reccomendations in Aug 2013 and have definitely had improvement, without question. What have we got to lose and to go with it you start to live a healthy lifestyle.

Hope all goes well

Steve

Hi, I`m sorry to hear how bad your mum is.

It is fine for you to post on this board. Are you your mums carer? I ask as there is a carers board, if you ever want to talk to other carers. But youre okay here luv.

Painkilllers really depend on what type of pain you are wanting to treat.

I found co-codamol gave me a really bad side eefect ie severe dizziness and a really awful out of itfeeling.

I take amitriptyine for nerve pain in my legs and it really zapps it.

But it does nothing for my terrible heel pain.

The thing with opiate based drugs, is that they need to be inceased all the time and that can cause other nasty side effects too!

It is a bit of trial and error finding the right pain killer.

Your mum doesnt have to be in such pain. Poor lass! Has she got an MS nurse, as it might be hepful to speak to her about pain relief. Is it her GP, or her neuro? If it is the GP, then perhaps her neuro woud be able to offer something more suitable

luv Pollx
