Living with MS in Albania, need help to get treatment

My name is Liljana Reveli I have been suffering from MS for 13 years. Right now, I am in a wheelchair. I can stand up with assistance and maintain my balance by holding onto something. Unfortunately, I can’t walk, and for the past year, I have been struggling with controlling my hands.

The doctor said I am in secondary progressive phase.

Sadly, the country I live in is corrupt, and they’ve stopped providing my medication. I was on Betaferon for 4 years, but for more than 5 years now, they haven’t given me any treatment.

I know that if I dont receive medication soon, I’ll end up bedridden.

In October, I have a meeting with a doctor, and I’ll be asking again for treatment, especially for Ocrevus. But I’m afraid they will respond the same way as before.

Is there any online service where I can consult about my treatment or alternative ways to access medication?
I need to find alternative ways to find some hope.
Best regards,

Hi Liljana,
Welcome. I’ve had multiple sclerosis for 24 years now. I was on the beta interferon treatment too, for 9 years before switching to the anti CD treatments, I’m now not taking any disease modifying drugs.

I think as an alternative, I will just rely on taking healthy nutrition and doing daily physiotherapy exercises, maybe if you try it too, it could help alleviate your MS symptoms.
Stay strong,
JP

Welcome. I am sorry to read your message and I totally sympathise. As a Greek, who has been living in the UK since 2004, I know that my options about my medication would have been limited in my home country, plus I would have to pay a lot for doctors, treatments, etc. I think that your options in terms of medication are limited in the secondary progressive form. Indeed, it might be best to focus on nutrition, feeling better emotionally, etc.
