Licence revoked/refused

Jorge I’m not sure if you live in the UK, but if you do look online for the United Kingdom Multiple Sclerosis Specialist Nurse Association, I’m sure you can contact them or the Nursing and Midwifery Council who may be able to refer you to someone in your area. I definitely read about somewhere you could call but that’s all that I can think of at the moment. MS nurses are a real asset.

Take care. Cath xx

Hi corrie, I think it is unjust to suggest that because I have a medical condition I could cause a crash - a fatality in particular. I am aware of my disability and the ways it effects me and wouldn’t drive if I thought I was unfit to do so. I have passed a thorough medical and in depth eye tests this year which have verified my ability to drive. The DVLA made the decision due to the MS being progressive and without knowing details of my specific case - which will never be the same as someone elses. Whilst I respect your opinion, any person could go out in their car and cause a crash or fatality, not just those with a disability. I’m sure I will know myself, as others have, when it is time to give up driving because I am no longer safe.

Good day Mel, sorry to infer any suggestion on your ability to be able, or not, to drive, it should be on medical advice that a license be revoked, not just a blanked ban, it was only after I stopped working, then driving, that I realised I should’ve stopped long before, stupidity, stubbornness, on my carrying on, others have decided, in my case medically retired was the end of driving, the PPMS diagnose was not, as you say, healthy folk can cause a crash, laws are for them, in a disabled person’s situation no one wins, no matter the result, Brian

Brian that decision must have been very difficult, I dread losing my license. I understand Mel why you were upset by the comment as I was taken aback with it at first too, but like you both say, we all need to know what’s right for us. I have my license but know there are days now where I shouldn’t drive but most of the time I’m well enough. My Neuro was happy to let DVLA know I was safe as he knows I’m sensible enough not to get behind the wheel if there’s any chance that my co-ordination or concentration is an issue or I’ve had my pain killers.

As you say Mel, accidents can be had by anyone and I think that because we know we have a disability we are more likely to concentrate even more as our chances of losing our licenses is much higher than some others. There are many bad drivers on the road that worry me a lot more than disabled ones.

Either DVLA are being inconsistent or their decision depends massively on what your doctor tells them about you. I was dx PPMS at the end if January and I now have a 3 year driving licence.

If your licence is revoked you have the right to apoeal and the letter givingcthe decision shouldctell you how to do so. Goid luck.

hi all today i have decided that i am going to fight my rights with DVLA, i have spoken to them, and told them that if they are going to take my license, they are going to have to prove that i am unfit to drive, so i hasked them to test me on the way i drive, to get police reports so they can see that i nevert in my life had an acident or any problems.

i told them that i can prove that i am able to drive any type of car, truck, even a fork lift, i have had enough, they cannot take my legs away.

I am sorry that i sound a bit mad, but DVLA has no right to hurt us more than what we are going trough already.

Thank you all.

I am still waiting for my decision from DVLA I must ring them after the bank holiday or my consultants secretary to see where there up to, it must be nearing 3 months now. I don’t drive for a living, but without my car to get to & fro work is a worry as I know I couldn’t cope with using public transport.

I’ve become a post man stalker waiting every day for the letter box to click.

Hi mel When dx informed dvla and they gave me 2yr tempory license expired now and waiting on neuro report to see if can get back I don’t drive as much these days my car is manual Amazing some of disability cars these days though Hope all goes well steve

Hi all, that’s great news Pauline, had a phone call from my neuro this week,he’s got the report from DVLA,it states another doc involved with my diagnosis said i suffered with mental fatigue which is not so,physical yes after a hard day’s work or too much walking.Neuro’s writing to them to inform them of this,so the fight goes on,good job my work mate’s dont mind picking me up and dropping me off and the company dont mind me riding shotgun and training people.Starting to drag now,you dont realise how much you depend on a car until it’s gone, got to keep positive even though it’s a long process.

Hi Mel,

Good luck with your campaign. If life has taught you anything then you must know that you cannot just give up. Far too many people interfere in your life and think that they know best, it is not always the case.

I am sure you have tackled bigger problems before and you will face even bigger ones in the future.

Good Luck and Keep Smiling x

Pauline that’s great news

Thank’s for your support once, twice, it’s an uphill struggle but i will drive again,no matter what.
