Hi
I got diagnosed in March this year following optic neuritis in my right eye in October last year. The symptoms had actually started in June and got to the point in October when I had no vision and so much pain.
9 months on and now and then, I feel like I get a slight bit of blurriness in that eye which lasts for a couple of days. At the same time I get pins and needles and pain in my right hand. My pre-treatment MRI showed no new lesions which is great but is it normal for these symptoms to come and go? I think I’m hyper vigilant with anything to do with my eyes as I’m really scared it’ll happen again. When I lost the sight in my eye it was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me.
Thanks
Hi, I had optic neuritis many years ago, losing the sight in one eye. It came back over about two months but never 100% and I still get twinges of mild pain and blurriness, if I’m tired and strangely if the weather is hot and humid like today! That said, I am OK to drive which was my main worry. Eye tests at the optician are a bit challenging, trying to explain what I can see with the affected eye but we get there in the end!
Hope it doesn’t cause you any problems but don’t be too worried if the eye doesn’t get completely better, ON is an MS episode like many others.

For me, relapses heal as much as they’re going to and that’s my new baseline. (Some people find that they heal more-or-less completely, particularly in their early days of MS - I’m afraid I was never one of those.) But then heat and humidity interfere with my internal electrics and temporarily stir things up again until I cool down. Some people find that cold does the same for them (for me cold is a help!) Stress and fatigue can do it too. I think there’s something about the conditions your body has to deal with at any given moment and how much ‘cash reserve’ your body has to draw on. When I go ‘overdrawn’, so to speak, for whatever reason, that’s when the old MS symptoms bubble up again.
