knee pain

Good afternoon all, yesterday i yet again twisted my right knee iv,e been having problems with it for a long time ive had a operation on it to repair the cartelage, and been told that i need a knee replaicement.

When i saw the consultant he said it wasnt too bad and could wait for another year,i was happy with that didnt realy want an big op.

Then over the last few weeks its been giving me lots of pain when sleeping im,ewakeing up screaming in pain, and have taken to putting a small pillow underneath it and it dones help a bit.but then yesterday i moved and side stepped and it gave way instant hot burning pain and me in tears, if this keeps up i dont think i can wait a year,or can i i am on lots of medication including a fentinil patch and thats not helping the pain either.

I was wandering if anyone has got any sugestions on how to cope with this and how to ease the pain on a night time.

I am sorry to read of your pain Barbara, it’s bad enough having ms, my friend has had her knees scrapped but no full operation as yet. I don’t know whether that’s an option for you, sorry can’t be anymore help. Perhaps it’s time to return to the doctor with this.

Take care, love Wendy x

Hello Barbara

Have you thought about wearing one of those elastic type, knee supports during the day. Sorry, I can’t think of the name…made of elastic type fabric and fastens with Velcro.

If I was you I would be pushing for an earlier op. The longer you leave it, the more damage is being done in my humble opinion, not to mention the pain it’s causing you.

Take care, Noreen xx

[/quote] Thanks Blossom i have tryed one of those too but it gets very hot and uncomfertable to wear and it recomends not to be worn at night as it can cause blood clots,so thats ruled out, i was thinking of a tens machine but dont want to wastr my money on something that wont work,so i,ll just have to struggle on Thanks for the reply. Hi Barbara, Have you thought of going to a&e with your knee? The reason being is they can provide you with a cricket splint. These support the whole leg and keeps your knee completely immobile so any damage can repair itself. Hope this helps xx

A&E may not be appropriate, but it might be worth talking to your GP - he may be able to give you a splint or refer you to someone who can.
