Jumping / Jerks

Hi All,

Just looking for some advice on a new ‘symptom’ that I keep getting please?

I keep on having these involintarry jerks and jumps all over my body. As in I will see my arms just ‘jump’ out away from me and it happens in my legs and i can feel it happening inside my chest and tummy too.

Thamkfully, it doesnt hurt but its very un-nerving and really ‘freaks’ me out too. So does anybody else get this? And is there a ‘medicine’ that might stop this happening?

I have also had problems again with my legs today and a couple of times this week. Where they feel like they are going to give way. today they did and i lost all co-ordination whilst walking back from shopping with my walking stick and 2bags. i ended up having to put the shopping down and then proceeded to wobble all around them and nearly fell backwards. I was proper scared as never felt so ‘not in control’ of my own body before. So again, has anybody ever had this? Is there a Med that can help please?

Thank you for all replies in advance,

Hi Anna!

Unfortunately, what you have experienced is not dissimilar to my experience with MS. In fact, it is my only overriding symptom currently.

I suffer from Secondary Dystonia and whilst I don’t experience the rapid jerks or twitches, I do experience abnormal twisting of my limbs and torso, on my left side only. It is not uncommon in Multiple Sclerosis. Unfortunately, dystonia formed the basis of my last relapse and when it was at its worst, Tizanidine controlled the episodes very effectively. That said, it doesn’t suit everyone. Baclofen is another muscle relaxant that also works very well. Unfortunately, it had absolutely no effect on me.

The NHS website provides some really useful information, so here it is. Unfortunately, it will not hyperlink, so just copy the link to your browser :- Dystonia - NHS

Hope things improve for you soon

Best wishes
