Had a tenant’s meeting last night and housing dept had booked me a wheelchair accessible taxi as usual.
The taxi didn’t arrive and when chased up said that they were having trouble getting a wheelchair taxi would an ordinary one do? Makes you larf. As though my wheelchair was an accessory I could just decide not to take.
A few weeks ago my daughter said that the electric wheelchair made me as good as able bodied again. I was so pleased and then you get smacked in the face by a wet kipper. For heavens sake it’s not much to ask, transportation from A to B.
To add insult to injury I’ve sat in all morning waiting for a visitor who is coming next Tuesday.
Sympathy Jane. Believe it or not I had the same sort of response when I had to go to hospital by ambulance. I had one hell of an argument with the ambos because they weren’t going to let me take my wheelchair!!! They kept trying to tell me there wasn’t room for it in the ambulance. What b0llocks! I finally got them to take it by asking if they usually chopped the legs of able bodied people before transporting them because that was what they were doing to me by refusing to take my “legs” with me.
Incredible that such ignorant discrimination exists in this day and age. Grrrrr. Shall we join forces and run them down together?
Yesterday was the 2nd anniversary of a young woman`s hubby dying. There was a special service at a church, commemorating this and others.
Their taxi didnt turn up. When the hirer rang to ask where it was, she was told it had called and knocked on the door. This was a down and out lie! They offered to send another. it was no good at all, as the service had happened.
When you were asked if an ordinary taxi would do instead, you couldve said, Well if the driver has a magic wand that can make my legs work, then yes…send it!`
