It's a long story....

Hi everyone,

Im a 30 year old male.

In august 24, i went to Specsavers due to having severe eye symptoms, which include, flashing colours, pain in eye, foggy eye, blurry vision and my leg was going weak/dead.

I was told by the Optician i had a ‘Blurred Disc’ in one eye, i was then sent off with an urgent referral for GP to send me to Neurology within 2 weeks.

I wasn’t sent to Neurology, i was given an appointment with Health Harmonie, who have advised me my nerve is ‘Twisted and Changed Shape’ due to my body shape.

I have had continuous symptoms now for about 6 months, my GP last week did a neuro exam and found.

‘Nystagmus on Horizontal Gaze’
‘Weak Trapezium Muscles’

She’s asked for advice from the neuro team at my local hospital, and for me to have a MRI within 2 weeks as she’s concerned.

I have had a phone call today, from the neuro registrar who’s advised that a letter has been sent to my GP explaining that i do not to see the team or have a MRI.

As you can imagine i am perplexed by all this, and quite frankly scared.

Can anyone advise me as to what to do next?

That does sound odd and no wonder you’re perplexed. Nothing for it but to consult the GP on next steps, I’m afraid.

Just had a chat to my GP who has advised the neurologist believe the symptoms are because of a Migraine.

At a loss as she completely disagrees with them.

How did Health Harmonie come to the conclusion that your nerve was twisted and changed shape?

Hi there, has anyone said anything about your weak leg?

I’m a bit mystified as to why you weren’t referred to Neurology as the optician originally stated.

Are you having any other issues?
Jot them all down, go back to your GP and ask for a referral to see a neurologist. I wonder whether the Neuro registrar is even aware of your leg issue….

Hi thanks for all your comments.

I have made a symptom diary over the past 10 days or so, i am seeing my GP on the 25th to discuss Neurology’s comments about it being a ‘Migraine’

I have had a brain MRI yesterday morning, as requested by my GP.

Waiting on the results now, it seems Neurology are the stumbling block.

My GP has done an examination and is concerned, so she sent me for an MRI yesterday.

Couldn’t answer that, i am assuming they had the scans from Specsavers.

My optician requested an urgent referral to Neurology, however my GP sent me to Health Harmonie instead :frowning:

If you’re having the MRI you should hopefully be sent to the right place. It all sounds very scary and GPs have no clue with neurology and neurology are very busy. So if they aren’t getting a decent enough referral in the first place they aren’t going to ‘waste’ an appointment. My referral was a joke from the gp, it said I had a lesion but I am doing great and have no symptoms… even though I’ve been regularly there with every symptom going. I decided to write up all symptoms dating back about 15 years and told my gp (the more senior one) to send that on to neurology. In my appointment the neurologist had printed out the list and began ticking off the obvious MS symptoms. BTW the GP actually laughed about me wanting to send that list off.

Just an update, my MRI scan results came back today however my GP is on holiday till next month.

Another GP is phoning me on Monday to discuss the results.

Terrified.

Can you see your results on the NHS app? My gp called me in for an urgent appointment to tell me that it was above his pay grade haha!

Just an update ; I spoke to my GP today about the MRI results and they’ve found ‘High Signals’ and ‘Lesions’ on my MRI scan.

The scan has been sent to Neurology to review, as (It was my GP who requested the MRI not Neurology)

Can anyone explain what ‘Lesions’ and ‘High Signals’ are?

No, beyond the fact that the scans have showed something worth reporting on rather than nothing. Sounds like you have a switched-on GP there.

Hi all, this is the report from my MRI can anyone help me interpret them.

Cheers,
