Good Afternoon, I am hoping that somebody maybe able to help me. I have been having problems on and off for a while with emptying my bladder. Almost about 80% of the time I feel as though I have not fully emptied my bladder so need to go again shortly after. I also suffer with a burning sensation but no whilst weeing. Its like a constant burning sensation that can last anything from a few hours to a couple days and disdappears and will then come back any time. Does this sound familiar to anybody and is it a possible ms symptom! Thank you. xxx
Yes, urinary retention (as well as urgency!) is a fairly common MS problem. Also, if, as you suspect, you are not emptying out fully, you may be more prone to infection, which could account for the burning sensation - although it might also be MS nerve pain.
As you don’t say where you are on the MS path, I don’t know who to suggest you call. If you already have an MS nurse, then perhaps her. Otherwise I’d start with the GP.
Hi Tina, Thank you for such a quick reply. I have not yet been diagnosed. I am waiting for my LP results and next appointment with neuro which isnt until middle of may, so another 5 weeks of waiting!! :’( xxx
I would report it to somebody before that, if I were you. At the very least, they may want to test your water for an infection, and if necessary give you some antibiotics to clear it up. I’m not sure if they might also refer you to a continence nurse (who deal with not being able to get it all out, as well as not being able to hold it in!), or if they will wait for this, until it’s clearer what’s going on with you. It might be easier to decide on treatment, once they’ve understood what’s causing it.
