Not MS related, more “Life” type things brought a situation to an end…
(and I’m sure there’s someone, somewhere with a very less charitable description of that time, and my part in it…)
FF>> 18yrs…
I get my RR DX and another “new life” begins…
More turning of more wheels, more water flowing under bridges…
I am contacted by a family member, and during conversation find out my ex-partner also has MS…
(TBH, knowing her, she’s probs handling it a bit better than I am…)
So, what’s the chances of that then statistics peps…?
Oh, another thing…
Ex had a really nasty bout of Glandular Fever just prior to our meeting…
Yes I have heard that before: MS may stem from a previous viral infection.
I personally I believe mine stems from childhood heavy nose bleeds; apparently you have a blood-brain-barrier, perhaps all those bleeds some how managed to seep through?
Well, I guess the chance of it happening in this case is 100% because it just has.
I certainly struggle with the concept of randomness, expecting it to look, well, more random than it actually does, don’t you? But we’re looking at small sample sizes (number of friends, number of ex’s or whatever), and randomness can look surprisingly lumpy in that context. I have found the same with MS in my own friendship group.
Never thought about nose bleeds, I think more to do with altitude, air pressure and the rough and tumble of being a kid! Had nose bleeds very often during childhood, thunderstorms or just very heavy rain, cable cars, fenicular railways etc.
I have a cousin who was diagnosed 5 years after me - she had almost the exact same symptoms, also with no prior warning or concerns. No family history of it. We now have almost identical daily symptoms and find we have the same struggles. Found it very strange, especially with the huge spectrum of symptoms MS can present.
Isn’t that interesting? Of course, while you didn’t have an FH of MS, your cousin did, albeit a rather recent one… It probably isn’t coincidence that it is presenting in such a similar way, although I have heard that, even in families where there is a clear tendency towards MS, individuals’ experience of it tends to be no more similar than that of an unrelated MS-er met on the street. But who knows? Clearly there is still much, much to be learned about all this.
Of course - I hadn’t considered the fact that I am now her link to a family history of it. Yes it’s so strange, lots to learn still isn’t there. Thanks for your reply x
