Is there any name?

Hiya everyone! I hope you are all as well as can be. I was just wondering if anyone knew the name of this problem I have had for years even way before DX of my MS. Basically it is in the right hand side behind my eye, the pain is so bad it can last weeks at times if not treated. My neuro is sure it is MS related and has put me on 2400mg of gabipentin a day so about 9 pills of them alone.

12 pills of it a day sorry I had to look again then :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi I’m not sure what it’s called but just as a matter of interest have you ever been reffered to an opthamologist to have it checked out? Sue x

Oh yes they found nothing

Hmm :-/ I suffer with it too but not all the time & only in the eye (left) that I’ve had ON in twice!! Sorry I cant be more helpful Sue x

No it’s ok  thanx for the reply

I have had pain behind my left eye for 4 yrs almost constantly…since I had a mini stroke and thought it was to do with that but now wonder if not.

My optician has never found any problems though last time she said my eyes had changed in a “strange” way. In that they had improved some. She said the only time she saw this type of thing normally is to do with Diabetes but my diabetes is totally in control…no meds and the same level every blood test in 9 yrs which is 1 point below diagnosis level.

My diabetic screening was a few weeks ago and was fine.

Maybe it is more to do with MS.

I have pain behind my left eye when I’m relapsing. It is a horrible pain, that doesn’t respond to any pain killer, even gabapentin. Kind of like a really awful headache, but localised behind the eye. Have seen an opthamologist, told nothing unusual was found. I think maybe it might be connected to a lesion, as it seems to flare up in relapse. Don’t know of any name for it, none which I could say here anyway! You have my sympathy though. Lx

Sorry now this is prob a silky question but does trigeminal neuralgia ring any bells?

Silly question

This is why I asked that Atypical means irregular or not typical. If you have this type of trigeminal neuralgia, you will feel prolonged pain between attacks. It may be a constant throbbing, aching or burning sensation. This form of trigeminal neuralgia responds less well to treatment than classic trigeminal neuralgia.

May also be worth looking up retrobulbar optic neuritis. I have this from time to time and it feels like I have pulled a muscle behind my eye (painful on movement and my eyes become very light sensitive). My opthalmic optician told me that this often doesn’t show up in an exam because it’s actually affecting the muscles behind the eye…

Mags x

Thanx Mags I will look into that  My problem is pain behind the eye that won’t feel better standing or sitting, burning, stabbing pain that is followed with a headache a few hours after, even with my pain killers this still comes on every single day but is helped abit with gabipentin 2400mg and 6 paracetamol a day.
