I had a relapse five months ago and my MRI showed three new lesions on my spine and several new lesions on my brain. I am currently suffering dizziness, complete loss of grip in my right hand and severe pain in my right hand and both legs. I have a cold but these symptoms seem very extreme. Am I having another relapse?
Hi, Sorry to hear you’re feeling so rough. Hopefully it’s just the virus causing symptoms to flare up temporarily. My advice would be to call your MS nurse for their opinion. Maybe steroids would help? Hope you feel better soon. Take care. Ann xx
Thank you Ann I will call her on Monday. She’ll probably get me steroids and then tell me to finally agree to Avonex or Copaxone which scares the life out of me
Awe don’t be scared of Avonex or Copaxone. I can’t comment on Avonex but have been on copaxone and it’s a complete doddle. The needle is so fine it really doesn’t hurt at all. I had to come off it coz I’m pregnant but will be going straight back on it after the birth. Nothing to be scared of, promise. Hope you start to feel better soon x
Thank you Lisa I’ll try to be brave for both me and my four children because I relapse and I’m near useless (not good with a 6month old) and my seven year daughter starts being mum (sort of :-D) I have read so many bad things about them both. I really shouldn’t research everything so much :-/ Oh and congratulations on your pregnancy x
My ms nurse told me she wouldn’t count symptoms as a relapse if I had a cold or infection as they would be responsible for them
Don’t be scared of Avonex either, I’ve been on it 9 months now and no side effects after the first couple of weeks. I had flu like symptoms but not badly and paracetamol controlled it.
The injector pens are really easy to use and it’s only once a week. Happy to answer any queries you may have on it.
Take care
Ruth
Thank you Ruth. Do you think it has reduced symptoms or relapses? I’m a wimp and terrified of needles so I need know if it is worth doing them
Lisa how far into your pregnancy are u? Im 33 weeks :)xx
Rebecca, those sound awfully severe symptoms for the kind of temp worsening that tends to come with infection/fever. But you need a proper medical opinion, as you say.
I am sorry that you are struggling with deciding what to do about DMDs and how you can give yourself the best chance of staying as well as you can for yourself and your family.
If Option A is ‘starting a DMD and having to stick needles in yourself’, and Option B is ‘taking your chance with the predations of uncontrolled RRMS’, then obviously what you want is Option C, which is ‘not having MS any more’. I think that sometimes our brains try to persuade us that Option C is a possibility if we just hang on for long enough! I also think that we can only accept an idea when we are good and ready. So far, it has not been the right time for you to start a DMD to help protect you from relapses, but ideas find their own time, and maybe this is yours?
Good luck with whatever you decide, and I hope that this flare up of MS activity (if that is what it is) fades fast.
Alison

I have been lucky enough to be very well throughout my pregnancy. A little scared of what might come after the baby is born though. Don’t have any other children, this is my first. Yes I had read that you had vertigo, not pleasant. Let’s hope it’s passing for you xxx
I am on rebif…and am a total needle phobic! Fainter! However I have done well on rebif and manage fine, its honestlly no problem. Very odd as I went for my flu jab and blood tests and I still led down! Think its because I am in control with the rebif. Honestly you’ll be fine. Xxxx its better than relapses hun. Xxx
Yea i hope so too im not hopeful it will go i think it got really bad when i was about 15 weeks and its still there now its strange as i never had vertigo this nad before i was pregnant the doctor thinks it may be pregnancy vertigo as its been so long like it when were u diagnosed? X
