Always enjoy your articles Steve. Reminds me of a person’s approach to nirvana, without being a Buddhist monk. Credit to you.

Oh Steve…

I love your writings and ramblings. They always make me smile. I find you very uplifting in a shi**y week, and as for your culinary skills, well!!!

I sort of surpassed myself in the kitchen yesterday. My Tumbler cherry tomatoes were languishing sadly on their stalks, having absolutely NO intention of blushing, never mind ripening to a red colour. (This summer in Ireland hasn’t lent itself to my tomato growing efforts). I picked the lot of them last week and laid them on newspaper on the warm pine window ledge of my porch/sunroom. Not looking too palatable for any salads, yesterday, of reasonable colour, they were thrown in a pot with a carton of (Aldi’s own) Passata, a few squeezes of tomato puree, some sad looking button mushrooms, even sadder, coloured, mini peppers that had lingered in the fridge longer than they should have, some dried mixed herbs, oregano, garlic, a dash of Balsamic vinegar, a slosh of tomato ketchup for good measure! Four bags of Tomato Based sauce in the freezer for spag bols and lasagne. Felt very virtuous indeed!

Carole.

Ray Davies was a real troubadour of the sixties and seventies. He wrote that timeless classic “Plastic Man”. Then there was “Celluloid Heroes.”

That’s just the sort of thing I do. Sad food needs a glorious destination.
