Indoor electric wheelchair

Hi everyone can anyone help or advice me please, I need an indoor small electric wheelchair to get about around the house. I have a self propelled manual chair that my husband can take off the wheels and put in the car for days we go out, but I have gone from a stick to a walker to move around the house but fall at least three times each week ,the NHS wheelchair guys say I am on a waiting list, and currently there are 20 in front of me. Can anyone suggest any thing else I can do, I can’t afford to buy or rent as I am on ESP. Thanks Deborah

Hi Deborah

Have you claimed DLA? By the way you describe your mobility I’d imagine you’d be eligible. Mine is paying for my car so should cover a wheelchair. I have guides from my union I could e mail to you to help you claim or check eligibility. Sorry but that’s all I can suggest. I hope there are others with more suggestions. Good luck.

Hi, I do think it is best to be assessed for mobility aids, by a trained therapist, like an OT or a wheechair therapist, but the trouble is, there is always a waiting list.

What about ringing whoever assessed you and tell them how often you are falling now? They may be able to push you up the list a little.

Whilst I was aiting and fallng, I bought an as new electric wheelchair on ebay…£400…there are cheaper ones.
