I'm scared I'm having a relapse

It scares me that in having a relapse. It started a few days ago with my leg then yesterday I was struggling to speak properly and my hand was tingling. In not ready, Erin is only 6weeks old and I’m not ready to miss any of her growing up

Hi Rebecca,

I’m afraid a relapse shortly after giving birth is not uncommon. Pregnancy tends to dampen the immune system - which means less MS activity - but of course ir returns to normal after the birth, which means relapse likelihood goes up again.

Have past relapses been very serious? Even if they have, it doesn’t mean this one will be. I suggest you try to view it as similar to having flu’, or anything else that makes you feel cak for a few weeks. You’re not well, but it doesn’t mean you will miss anything. Not every relapse results in hospital admission.

Fingers crossed it’s only a mild/short one.

Thank you Tina hopefully that’ll be the case. In just scared because my relapse after I had my daughter was really bad and I missed months of her. I was with her but I have no recollection of it, was forgetting to feed her and thought she was a few weeks old when she was then eight months by the time the relapse finished. Fingers crossed it won’t be like that x

Ah, in that case I understand why you’re worried it might go the same way. All I can say is MS doesn’t have a memory, so it doesn’t know what it did last time - could be quite different this time. I do hope so!
