Im missing the old forum are you?

Im missing the old forum, the regular posters, the ease of use, the laughter, the serious side, the support, all the kindness etc. Wonder where everyone is? Hello out there, is anyone feeling like me? bren xx

Hi Bren, Yep, I really miss the old place, things aren’t the same here. I don’t find this easy to use and I miss the way things were and the old faces. I don’t come on as much as I did, I used to look forward to logging into the old forum each day and see who was there and what the topics were, but not now. Progress I suppose. :frowning: Anne x

Evening all Quite a few people who used the old forum seem to be missing from this forum. I think some people have had such a hard time logging in, password issues, username issues, different options not actually working and then the forum closing only to reopen with less options working and the thought of version 2 (or release 2 or whatever it’s called) due this week, which doesn’t seem to have happened. I do prefer the layout of this forum as I find it much easier to follow a thread and find the latest post, whereas with the old forum you could be opening loads of branches of topics and still not find the latest reply. Hopefully ALL the issues will be resolved and maybe some more people will return. V

Yes I really miss the old site as well, have lost track of a couple of people that I really liked and was just getting to know, one was in a panic about what was ahead, and then it happened. Im so sad to lose contact with them, and all the other people that I got to know and like over the years. What I dont understand is that Ive been on a couple of other sites today, they have changed their web sites to a version practically the same as the one our web team aspire to, but theres are all up and running and everything in place, no loss of buddies etc. Shame we didn`t follow them. :frowning:

Hi Bren Yes I really miss the old site I used to be a frequent participant and now I’m seldom on. I sent private messages and had emals about replies but have not been able to access them. Its a nighmare now which is such a shame as I have really valued it in the past. I can’t get used to the odd colour, to the lack of a friendly user method, to thr starkness of it all. I miss my friends, I miss the jollity of the site. I’m perplexed at the lack of understanding from the designers of this and I think they have really got it WRONG :frowning: Mary

I just feel emptiness now when I go in this site. I hardly come here now… Joan (Dundee)

Hi Bren, I miss the old site too. :frowning: This one doesn’t have the same feeling of community the old one did. It is just too stark and clinical. Like trying to socialise in a hospital waiting room rather than down the local pub! Hopefully the new version (Mark 2) will be an improvement but TBH, having been part of the testing process for it, I am not holding my breath. Precedent, the developers, really don’t seem to understand what it is we need. Oh well, here’s hoping… Belinda

Hi Bren, Yes i am missing the old site too, i dont come on here as much,it feels too clinical, and there are only a few of the familiar faces around too,but things change and those of us that dont like change just have to put up with it,and try to move with the times,i suppose its because we are getting older and set in our ways, i hate not having buddies anymore  jaki xx

Yes, I feel emptiness as well and a horrible feeling that this was done deliberately. Why on earth couldn’t the designers just have set up a forum that looked like thisisms? I don’t even bother logging in much now and what had been the best forum (UK based that is) for MS - for the breadth and variety of the posters, has been killed. The sheer number of people who signed up to be transferred was far, far larger than any branch and yet, on reading Tina’s post, I got the impression that web users didn’t count. It’s really sad and so disappointing. This forum’s been a great support for me at times for a long time and the new set up is cold and unfriendly. How on earth they managed to make such a simple mistake by not setting up a ‘thread started by’ box just shows the lack of experience and knowledge about people with MS. There’s not even a ‘remember my login’ box, so we have to make sure we have our new passwords on view. We have MS. We don’t have good short-term memories and those of us who can’t join groups for various reasons rely on this site for support and we’ve been let down horribly. It’s such a shame.

Well said. My sentiments exactly… B xxx

Hello Bren. Katrine, Everyone. I hope to find you all well. Yes I know what you mean about feeling lost. It was all guns blazing to begin with and people really persevered…but I think once the problems started it was a bit of a come down and some who were here at the beginning have not returned by the look of it. There are a lot of familiar names missing and this in itself has you feeling a bit lost and out of the old comfort zone. I cannot comment on those powers that be who make the changes because I know very little about IT I just know I am feeling a bit sad at feeling a loss of something that I enjoyed very much. I will keep coming on here though because I think with time we will get used to it and names that are new now will become familiar…although I hope others soon return in their droves as they are very much missed… Take care everyone and thanks for being around…I appreciate you all very much and I will get you all a drink when Jennie opens up her cyber pub again…how’s that, we are all invited…and I hope it happens soon. xx Maria :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes  , It’s cold in here. The sense of community and support has gone. I know changes had to come, the old software was no longer viable but was this the best solution :?: I suppose it’ll be easier to moderate now, the old discussions and banter that needed refereeing don’t happen anymore :frowning: I think the biggest bit of damning evidence against the new board is the numbers of users logged on at one time (has drastically fallen) and the number of responses to a post have dwindled. I have a look in the morning & note the live posts, I have another look in the evening and the traffic has barely moved. And this is a time when the oldies are trying to make the new board a success. When the old folks decide to walk (I know, chance would be a fine thing  ), this board will be people posting unanswered questions and the occasional crap joke in an attempt to wake up the board  Not good for newbies and for people needing support. This development has killed EL  .

It’s not the same, when you check at the bottom of the page you are lucky if 4 or5 users are online. If you look at PPMS it’s usually me!!! I’m damned boring and know my woes, wish everyone would get back to us. Take care, M

Looks like the majority that are lgging in are of the same opinion. Now a reeally great site, where lots of people got so much help and made new friends will go into a decline.

Thank you all, you express my sentiments eloquently. Ive been trying to figure out how to reply to each and every one of you at the top but cannot? Please know Ive read your posts and hope very soon when things settle down some warmth comes back and we each feel at home again. Luv bren xx

It will only go into a decline if WE let it. We are all battling with MS, so we are used to setbacks and ups and downs; very much like this forum    Perhaps once the site is PROPERLY up and running, more people will return, in the meantime we have to keep going, Again… just like MS  V

hello yes im really missing everyone who i knew from old site it keeps freezing me out of this site and saying im not authorized??? i really miss the old ease of posting this site although has gimmicks to itice us lol i still miss the old site. this one must have cost us all a fortune which could have gone to helping us in other ways? i know alot of work went into making this new site happen and for that ( thankyou webteam) but really feel its got to a point where if we are still haveing issues with this site maybe a more simpler one like the old one would have been much better, esp when not everyone here has the brain power to keep trying top figure things out. hello by the way to anyone who knows me here add me as a buddy and pm any time ( not that i know how ? nor how to pm you yet lol) bfn love caz

To be honest, I’m sure like lots of other oldies, at the moment I really don’t have the energy to prop up a not fit for purpose board to prevent it going into decline. I’ll post now and again but I can’t come on here and post just to prove that someone is using it…

PMs Click on User Control panel (top left) Along the top you will see • Overview Profile Board preferences Private messages Usergroups Friends & Foes Click on private messages This will take you into Compose messages With options on the left hand side A PM you have sent will remain in your outbox until the recipient go to their PMs and reads it.

I feel exactly the same, people probably won’t recognise my user name as in the 3 years plus I have been registered as a user I have never posted much. But, the dwindling use of this board and the lack of older and established users has changed it beyond recognition. I didn’t realise quite how much I relied on the site to keep me in touch and enable me to feel part of the wider MS community. I’m not really sure what we can do to change things, but I do know that there are enough of us left to make sure the forums don’t dwindle to nothing without a fight !
