Hi Charlotte,

I can identify and empathise with you hun.

Im 64 now and my hubby looked after me by himself for 11 years. He got Carers Allowance. He qualified as I was getting middle, then high rate of DLA personal care component.

Back then it was around £50 a week. He had to care for me for a minimum of 35 hours.

If you feel you need carers coming in as well, you can apply to Social Services for an assessment.

I get this and use Direct Payments to pay carers.

It is means tested to check if you can afford to pay any or all of your care package.

As regards getting your council tax reduced, the criteria is that you have had a room adapted to meet your needs as a disabled person. Or it can be that you a a wheelchair user. I am not aware that this is mean tested, I wasnt!

It`s difficult and very costly being disabled, I know!
