human mannequin (not MS)

Hi gang!

Did anyone watch the tv prog on Thursday night, with the above title?

Another rare condition, which Id never heard of was explained. The lovliest 18 year old girl suffers from a horrendous illness where her muscles are turning to bone......calcification, I believe its called. Plus any knocks result in more bone forming.

She was to be admired for her gusto for life and a longing for a successful career as a fashion writer. Elle magazine gave her some work experience which she excelled at.

She lives in Scotland and her mum and sister are her carers. The poor lass has little flexibilty in her limbs and even her mouth is beginning to set. She was unable to sit prooperly in a chair, as she is so stiff. She said she was dreading the thought of being in a wheelie. Thing is, she`d have to have a standing or lying down one.

She has very nimble long fingers and could apply her make up in a really beautiful way. What a pretty girl!

Life expectancy is 42. Makes you think, eh?

I saw her Poll, so heartbreaking, such a beautiful young lady too, wasnt she.it does make you think, i thank god that my ms, didnt do much damage UNTIL i reached my fourties,at least i had a life,up until these last few years.i am so grateful for that.

No, I didn’t see it but I’ve just read up on it, certainly helps to get things in perspective doesn’t it?

Thanks for posting

Hi Ladies, I saw the programme and also watched her on This Morning, she is a very brave young lady. Life is so cruel to nice people!!

l watched it Poll, - what a lovely family - sister-mum-granny - All of them ‘fashionistas’ - a very girlie household [no sign of dad].

l do hope she will still have the ability of putting on her make-up for years to come. The make-up seemed to be her ‘shield’ to hide behind. Perhaps after this television programme she will find an outlet for her talent.

After visiting the ‘specialist’ - and from what he said - there could be some form of treatment in about 4yrs.

l watched the programme about the two singers from Xfactor. Jonathan and Charlotte - what lovely young people. So mature for their age. His weight was caused from depression - which made him eat - and then bullying at school when he became so overweight and even more depressed. lt seemed his life revolved around his ‘bedroom’. His music- computer - television - l also thought he ‘hid’ behind his hair. With voices like they have - they should have a long and successful future even if they do not stay together. Be interesting to see if Jonathan loses some of his weight as time goes on. l hope he doesn’t model himself too much on Pavarotti.

Hi Poll, I have just watched it on the laptop, it was so moving. What a beautiful girl both inside and out. I hope and pray they find a drug to help her, the research they are doing sounds promising. Thanks for the reminder I was meant to watch it when it was on tv but forgot all about it. Love Karen xxx

Glad you all found it interesting and admired the girl, as i did.

Frances, havent watched the singing duo. But hope they too make it to their dreams.

luv Pollx

Hi Poll Just watched the prog on catch up. What an inspiration she is. So brave and I do hope that the drug in the pipeline will help her…she so deserves it. Also enjoyed watching Charlotte and Jonathan…I hope they both have a musical future whichever way they turn, their voices are fabulous! luv Linda x
