I have had a confirmed diagnosis of MS for just two years and although I am trying very hard to stay positive and do all the correct things I am rather down today.
i have a holiday booked and meant to be going tomorrow but over the past few days I have been having spasms in my leg which would make me fall over if I wasn’t close to something to hold onto.
should I cancel or go and hope that it improves?
Any advice
Go.
I’m sorry to hear about your spasms. We have to make provision for so many abnormal symptoms. The best way I have been able to cope is to manage everything. Everything is planned and thought out; from a trip into town to a family holiday. I always think that on holiday there will be many opportunities for relaxation and enjoyment. It’s not just the location; everyone’s on holiday and everyone wants to relax.
best wishes, Steve.

I find 375mg of magnesium eases problems with spasm and cramp, and has the advantage of being available over the counter at chemists. Massage and stretching can also help.
Holding on to something until the problem subsides makes perfectly good sense to me.

I would recommend going but only you know how much of an effort the journey will be and how much energy the holiday will take up. I’m going away on Tuesday it’s a long flight and will be extremely tiring, i’ll probably sleep my first day or so but I’m determined to continue to go for as long as possible. I plan far in advance, I’m already packed I just need to sort out hand luggage which is only the bag I put on my wheelchair, I stay at an airport hotel the night before I fly so as to make the journey as stress free as possible and I always arrange airport assistance I couldn’t manage without. Planning is my top travel tip.
I’ve just realised you said you are going today so hopefully you will have all the necessary arranging and planning done and that medication is sorted. Have a lovely time and if you haven’t managed to go don’t beat yourself up about it just plan the next one and put this time down to experience.

Hi
Sorry I am late replying, you’re probably on your way, but for future reference, I take baclofen for spasms.
It doesn’t completely eradicate them, but it helps somewhat, might be worth having a word with your MS nurse or GP on your return from holiday.
Hope you have a lovely time.
