Holiday Insurance

Any one out there recommend decent holiday insurance when you have MS? Any quotes I have received so far are costing nearly as much as the holiday! Advice would be appreciated, used the sites link but it was nearly double another quote! Help … please. X

I use boots insurance, not expenses at allx

Thanks, just going to try them now

hi

i used the mss-made a claim last year and tbh i wont be claiming again this year-if i need to!

i dont think their claim procedures are much diiferent from anyne else tbh but for me gathering the info they require was even more stressful than cancelling my hol!

i have taken the insurance again this year but will only claim should i require hospital treatment- flights/train tickets is not worth the hassle, as a learn to my cost. i have never claimed before but learned some lessons last year!

cover is only tested when u have to use it/claim unfortunately!

I only want to make sure I am covered on holiday, not bothered about having to cancel it prior to leaving as I think you are right, they are all much more grief and hassle than they are worth. I just don’t want to return home with no suntan and a hospital bill … that would just add insult to injury lol x

hi again

then i would read the small print and go for cheapest!

enjoy when u go!

LV for us this year. £50 for a family of four for 11 days and covers my MS and asthma. I have car and home insurance with them and their claims procedure is pretty good. I worked for them a few years ago too!!

Thank you so much, it was well worth asking the question! LV it is for me, all booked up for another year and half the price of the cheapest quote to date! Cover for my pre-existing condition so another worry off the tick list. Thanks guys and Turkey here I come!!!

I’ve currently got two single-trip policies with Direct Travel (one holiday with Mum, the other with my sister).

I was able to do the medical declaration on line: it asked a few questions about whether I use any walking aids, do I need any help with personal care, when was the last time I was hospitalised and how long since I was diagnosed etc. Based on the answers I gave (walk with a stick, fully able to care for myself, never hospitalised and dx less than 1 year), they charge me £15 extra to cover my MS and add in my hayfever and eczema for free! (Neither my Mum nor my sister have any health issues.)

Their policies are not expensive. I’ve never had to claim so I can’t comment on their claims handling department, but in terms of level of cover and price I’d recommend them.

Our bank includes an travel insurance policy with our account. We then pay a premium on top to cover MS (£107 for the current year). I have allways found it strange that the worst place to buy travel insurance including pre existing conditions is travel agents. With the bank we also have the option to declare MS, not pay an aditional premium, and except anything MS related would not be covered.

I never buy travel insurance from a travel agent (but then, I don’t buy my holidays through a travel agent, either - I don’t do package holidays, never have).

I think many insurers have the option of excluding current medical conditions from the policy, but I tend to take the view that if something goes wrong and I need to make a claim, it is much more likely to be because of my MS than some new condition. Having come across the company I’m currently using, I’ll keep on using them for the forseeable future as their policies are reasonably priced and the cover is good.
