Hi guys, I hope everyones doing well? Ok at best ;)

I had my follow up exam from my first diagnosis 6 months ago yesterday, and my main priority was going to be to talk to the Dr about crutches as the cane and splint only really works for short distances - not even the top of my road. And she was talking about applying and having to go to EXETER for an assessment. She was offering me a mobility scooter but I have to have an assessment for crutches? Does not compute.

Also I finally got my PIP forms through today and was quite shocked that it’s 40 pages long. But it’s all good here apart from that.

Rant over, I hope you’re all doing well?

Dave

Apologies for double post, this computer does not seem to want to work properly lately

Hi Dave

Have a word with your OT they will come out to you and sort out aids for you. If you dont have an OT your gp can refer you, or you can ring social services adult team and they will arrange it for you.

Best of luck with your form, benefits and work website helps with this or citizens advice will also help.

Lovely sunny day here today, hope its the same forr you.

That form sounds intimidating! My neighbour works in The Advice Shop which helps with suh matters so she has ofered to help me with these forms which is good news!

I have a mobility scooter and I would highly recommend getting one for distances (I have weakness in one arm so crutches are not an option for me).

I hope your day improves

Hi Dave, I agree with the others… mobility scooters are a life saver. You get your freedom back! Join Benefits and Work website and follow their step-by-step guide to filling in the PIP form. Keep a copy. Write everything in detail… if you need extra space add extra pages at the back and write on the form ‘See additional info at back’. Repeat yourself in each question if you have to. Do not take it for granted that the person who will look at the form knows anything about your condition. Write it for a person who knows absolutely nothing. All this and much much more will be on the Benefits and Work guide. Good luck. Pat xx

You’ve had great advice from the others, all I can add is that you need to repeat yourself about why you struggle as if each question will be read by someone different. And keep a copy of everything, it really helps when the next load of forms arrive and just keep updating it each time. I got booklets to help with ESA and DLA claims from my union that I can email to you, they might help a bit, my friend used them and said they were very helpful. Good luck.

Hey guys  I was given a number to call while I’m filling it in by my MS advisor, I’m assuming it’s someone from Citezens advice, either way I’m gonna wait til Monday, I’m hoping it goes through, if anything just so I can afford the travel to the hospital and back, she was quite adamant that I don’t have a ‘this is my source of income’ attitude like I didn’t want to work or something, was quite insulted I’m not gonna lie haha.

Thanks for the advice and words
