Help pleas

Hi can any body tell me how to get rid of and keep at bay urinary tract infections I have had 5 this year and been given antibiotics by the GP, it goes for literally about 2 days but as soon as the course is finished it returns. My walking has gone from poor to not being able to function even indoors, I am at my wits end !

I suffered with uti’s for nearly a year and had countless courses of antibiotics. It may be that your are retaining urine and so you need to see a continence nurse to have bladder scan done. As it happens I was using intermittent catheterisation and after the scan I was told I had a rather larger bladder stone. You can never clear the infection as it sticks to the stone. Hence antibiotics become useless. You must ask for bladder scan to see what is going on!! Hope this helps… Linda

Hi, last year I had a 6 month long uti…like you, as soon as the anti-b`s were finished, along came another uti. I drank cranberry juice daily, but it obviously wasnt helping.

I had severe urgency and retention…going every hour…which caused lots of problems as my mobility is zero!

I went for a suprapubic catheter…quite drastic as an operation is involved…9 months later, I am not dashing or wondering where the nearest suitable loo is. Had a small amout of difficulties, but all in all, I am much better off now.

I now take concentrated cranberry tablets. No utis, fingers crossed.

I can’t speak from experience but read somewhere that honey and cinnamon in warm water kills bacteria in the bladder.

if all else fails, ask for a maintenance dose of trimethoprim. (just one tablet per day)

it did the trick for me and now i dont need to take them any more.

i have a box in case an infection happens.

Thank you all for your advice Amanda x

Hi i find drinking freshly boilded pearl barley water does it for me

Hi

I’m having a similar problem at the moment. Cranberry is known to be good - get pills rather than the juice, as they’re cheaper & stronger. D-Mannose is another pill you can try, which is the actual bit in cranberry that’s meant to be good for bladder health.

Drink plenty of water, and cut out caffeine. And I just read the other day that cider vinegar is meant to help too - mix a couple of tablespoons in a glass of water, and sweeten it with a bit of honey if you need to, so I’m giving that a try. Apparently mixing a teaspoon of baking soda with a glass of water is good for the urgency & bladder pain too, though I’ve not tried that yet.
