Neuros are still doing yet more tests on me before any diagnosis ! I had back surgery last year and after 2 weeks in hospital they found white spots on my brain ( so to speak ) my backs great now but I have a problem with my hands, which I have had for a year now! I’m on Gabapentin and amitriplyline. My question is! I’m getting at night little, well all I can say is electric shocks in my head!! Does anyone else is this normal for Ms? Thank u Claire xx
Hi,
Not sure if this is normal for MS or not, but I’ve been having these on and off for years! I’m recently diagnosed but I’ve had unexplained symptoms for over 20 years. Is it a bit like a zap in your head when you’re going to sleep?!

Yeah and like now my hair hurts if that makes sense?? Thank u Fizzy xx
Anyone else suffer with, well like little electric shocks when you go to sleep or sleeping? Thanx Claire xx
Yes…in my legs…but my GP prescribed amytriptyline which is helping. Xx
Thank u. No one else has it in their head? Thank u Claire xx
I will just ask, as I’ve hit the bullseye more than once, when I’ve asked this: Have you reduced, or tried to stop any antidepressants recently, or even just accidentally skipped a dose or two? Untapered withdrwal from some ADs can cause weird symptoms, including neurological ones - the so-called “head-zaps”, or “brain-zaps”.
No need to answer publicly on the forum, if you don’t want to discuss AD use. But if it rings a bell, Google “brain zaps” and see what it comes up with.

Tina thanx soooo much. I didn’t take my 300mg Gabapentin that day as I’m fed up of feeling my head is in the clouds!! Maybe it was that??? I always take my amitriplyline at night otherwise my hands hurt more in the night!!! Oh the joy! Thank u Claire xx
I am not diagnosed, waiting for LP , but I get electric shocks random all over body including head, am not on any medications. The pain has never lasted more than a few seconds, but is enough to make you feel like your head will split open.
Hi again Claire,
I’m not sure Gabapentin is one of the ones that usually causes a withdrawal reaction - I was thinking more off SSRIs like seroxat or citalopram, or SNRIs, like venlafaxine.
Then again, I don’t think Gabapentin is one that is supposed to be stopped suddenly, so if missing a dose was something you did differently before the new symptom started, it could be there’s a connection. I would see how it goes on the correct dose for a few days. If you don’t have any repetition of the problem, could be that was your answer!

Hello generally looking for advice ! I was diagnosed with optic neuritis in June 2011. Lots of pins and needles, with one incident of paralysis that lasted about half an hour? Has MRI but it was clear was basically told by neurologist to come back if I started falling over! I haven’t been back … I have a dr. Appointment 2mrw, …generally keep getting a huge sharp pain in my left shoulder -pins & needles down my left arm the pain moves into my spine then moves into my right shoulder. I have periods of no pain but it returns … Is this familiar to others? In general do people have reoccurring pain in the same place? Oh also I still have very little sight in my right eye … Has anyone lost theirs and its returned? Any general thoughts would be great? Thank u x
