Hi,

First of all you would go on the sick. You are entitled to 6 months Statutory Sick Pay but your contract of employment may offer better than Statutory (eg so many weeks on full pay so many on half etc)
After a period of sickness you would want to agree with your employer that there was no possibility of you returning. Perhaps they could make some adjustments that would allow you to carry on. If returning is not feasible your contract would be terminated and you would apply for Employment Support Allowance.
