My dad, who has MS,has been stuck in bed for the past nine days unable to move his arms, legs or body following a urinary tract infection. My mother is at a loss as to how to help him and he still hasn’t received medical care. What should I suggest she do? Thanks in advance
Who diagnosed the urinary tract infection? They would be one option.
Can you contact his GP and ask if he can prescribe antibiotics? You could also phone 111 for advice.
Other than that keep him well hydrated and watch out for bed sores. Some people treat UTIs with cranberry juice.
Hi Utis can be a right old swine and do all sorts of untold nasty stuff.
I do think you should try to get him seen by someone…this kind of infection needs treating with anti biotics.
Hope things improve soon.

Hi there,
I’m with Bouds on this one, UTIs are nasty and definately need antibiotics and plenty of fluids. When I have one which is often I give a sample of my wee in a testing bottle. Not sure whether you could visit a GP surgery or pharmacy or order from Amazon. Have you phoned his GP surgery or 111 for help - please do this for your dad Or does he have a MS nurse who could help.
Hugs
Min xx
Please get medical advice from either his gp or 111. When my husband gets a uti he often ends up in hospital and, in his case, because he has a urinary catheter, it often ends in Sepsis. Our district nurses test his urine and send it off to the lab if necessary. Once your dad is on the correct antibiotic and well hydrated, you’ll be amazed at the improvement! Pressure sores from being in bed so long also need a careful eye kept on them. Best of luck Julie xx
