Hi. I really need some advice. I was diagnosed 17 years ago with RRMS. I have since had very few problems. I am not on any DM drugs and do not have an MS nurse to ask for advice. Two weeks ago I suddenly developed what I thought was migraine. It has spread into ear pain. Painkillers help but it just comes back. Now my knee on the same side feels week when o first stand up, it feels cold as if it has cold water running through it. I struggle to walk but only whe. I first stand up. Is this likely to be a relapse. If so, what should I do? Should I go back to GP and say I need to see something for my MS? And help and as I e much appreciated. Thank you!
Hi Spoondish. Can you remember if when diagnosed you received any advice on what to do if your symptoms got worse/ new ones appeared? A letter somewhere?
Slightly surprised that you weren’t given a disease modifying treatment. I was diagnosed some 17-18 years ago and was put on Avonex.
Yes definitely contact your GP with a clear list of symptoms and ask him/her about possible relapse or worsening of old MS symptoms
Oh thank you. Yes I think GP is definitely first point of call before things get worse. Thank you
Hi @spooniedesigner
Welcome back. I’ve had R-R multiple sclerosis for 24 years now and in that time, the way I’ve coped with relapses is trying to gauge the severity, if it’s light then I treat myself with painkillers and physiotherapy exercises also letting neurology know about it, but if it’s heavy and not often then I head straight to A&E so I can get an intravenous prednisolone steroid top-up.
I’ve decided to come off DMD drugs for various reasons this year, this is the way I’ll try to manage my MS symptoms in future. I know other MS sufferers have different stratagems with coping, so I wish you good luck with seeking treatment.
Best,
JP
I would dig out the diagnosis letter from 17 years ago and try and get hold of one of the nurses at the same hospitals Neurology Team. Is your vision normal in each eye?
