Hey I’m new here. I had myelitus 10 years ago and went numb down my left side. I recovered after about 3 months with no steroids and was told this was hopefully a one off flare up, but that if it happened again would likely be diagnosed with MS.
3 months ago I became suddenly dizzy and sick with vertigo. I couldn’t even lift my head without being sick for days. And I had nystagmus (eyes twitching back and forth) so my vision was blurred and jumping all over the place.
These symptoms are identical to an ear infection…
But i advised them of my previous myelitus so I had a brain scan… This showed new lesions since my scan few years ago… So they are telling me this was ms.
I’m not so sure myself. I had lower back pain and kept wetting myself last summer and numbness in one leg.
They scanned only my spine in a and e, to rule out cord compression… But now… I’m sure that was ms…
So I just wondered if anyone here has has nystagmus caused by the ms?
Many thanks
Nystagmus can be caused by MS. My most obvious symptoms were balance based and Nystagmus gave me the evidence of a very clear relapse just before Christmas one year. Cleared itself quite quickly without the use of steroids.
Yes my ms diagnosis came following a second episode much like yours. Dizziness, vomiting if I moved my head snd nystagmus. A huge steroid infusion pushed me through it. Took a few weeks to have eyes back to normal. Now need glasses with prisms, but that us not unusual and helps tremendously. Sight is fine now and has been for 12 years since that episode. Don’t panic. You will get back to a new normal and cope fine with it. It takes time so be patient and give into your new needs, mainly for rest!
