GLP1 Weightloss Drugs

I am in my mid-50s and post-menopausal finding it very difficult to control my weight. I am on Fingolimod, but also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have found an article MS and obesity that discusses repurposing drugs originally created for diabetes to help with MS symptoms and wondered if anyone had any experience of taking these with a DMT?

I am cautious as I am already on so many other medications. My GP surgery can see no contraindications but I was interested to see if anyone else has any experience with these and MS.

Are you talking about Metformin? Have a look on the Society’s web site page ‘latest treatments and research’. Metformin is being looked in ‘Trials’

I wasn’t, but the research does seem to be coming on a pace in researching drugs used for other purposes. Very excited to think that there is a possibility for myelin repair.

It is indeed. It does sometimes feel as if it’s always a few years away before new treatments and myelin repair become available but compared to when I was diagnosed 18 years ago, there are now many more and more effective treatments available. Fingers crossed for Myelin repair.

I know the original conversation I had with my neurologist was to try and stall the progress of my MS until they had come up with a cure. I didn’t hold much hope at the time, but I am being pleasantly surprised by current progress.
