Generic Aubagio

Hi, I’ve sucessfully been taking Aubagio for the last 8 years, but i received a letter from Warwickshire NHS advising me that I will be switching to the generic version of teriflunomide?
Has anyone else been advised of a change and has it bought on any side effects? Im 58 and no new MS symptoms for the whole 8 years, whic is great. My consultant did mention that when I reach 60 with no new symptoms I could stop taking my DMDs. I thought this a discussion we wiuld have nearer to my 60th birthday! And then I get this letter saying they are switching to the generic version of Aubagio.

Has anyone else had similar happen to them?

Thanks

First, this may be entirely coincidental and unrelated to the change over to the generic version of teriflunomide.

I started taking the generic version 2 weeks ago and in the last week I’ve started to get stomach cramps after eating or drinking anything with low-level nausea. There have been no other changes in diet or lifestyle, and I’m not aware of picking any bugs up or eating anything ‘dodgy’.

Moving to the generic version has been the only change, and I notice they’re a much darker blue than the original version. So really curious to hear if anyone else has experienced anything similar and it’s interesting you’ve posted this, which suggests you might have experienced a new side-effect?

As an aside, my neurologist said almost the same thing about coming off DMD’s when I hit 60’ish as it tends to ‘burn itself out’ with fewer relapses and any symptoms or progression related to existing damage or just getting old :joy:

As I said, it could be a coincidence because the 2 are likely to be unrelated so I’ll treat them separately at the moment.

Male, 50, RRMS, on teriflunomide since 2018, and wondering when I officially become an adult…

Hi Garry,

I think I’ll be getting my new prescription soon so it wont be long before my new tablets will arrive. I’ll let you know how I get on, but I hope things improve quickly for you and it turns out not to be the new meds!

But on another note my employers have just decided to change how staff bonuses are given out and attendence plays a big factor and unfortunately this year I have been hit hard with Covid, the recent flu virus plus some MS symptoms giving me over the allowed sick pay(5 days) rules by double - still not a lot of time off considering my diagnosis!

Obviously, being on this medication also has an effect on our immune systems, which if this was the year the new rules had been applied, I’d definately be missing at least 2 of my £500 bonuses maybe even 3!

I think I’ll need some help once I’ve digested all the info!!!

Eek!
