I’m currently on holiday in Florida and am unsure if my Rebif has frozen. Fortunately, I’ve brought a thermometer and noticed that the temperature in the fridge had fallen to between 0-2 degrees. I’ve been adjusting the temperature of the fridge to keep it around 3-4 degrees.
I’m sure that the bubble in the cartridge used to move. Now it’s staying still. How will I know if it’s frozen? Is it dangerous to use if it’s frozen?
It’s a long time since I stopped using rebif, but I remember I did once accidently freeze some. I rang my MS nurse to check, and she told me NOT to use any, and then immediately ordered a new delivery.
I’ve just looked on the Rebif website (USA) and see they have a ‘questions’ line at the top of the page, here -
Thanks Ben. Wish I’d just kept it in the travel bag but it’s all been in fridge including rebismart. Room temp was 24 so didn’t want to risk keeping it out. Do you think it’ll be ok to miss 4 doses? Is that safer than using it if there’s a risk it may have frozen?
Well, I’m certainly no expert, but in your position I’d miss the four doses. The rebif website is pretty clear that you shouldn’t use it.
Why not try calling the helpline number on the top of the page linked in my first post, that way you’d be speaking to an expert who could offer some reassurance. It’s a USA number.
Apart from the rebif problem, I hope you’re having a good holiday in the sunshine. Here in southern England we had snow showers yesterday, so you chose the right time to travel.
