Just got back from hospital with some more bad news. If its not bad enough having ms i have now been told it is attacling my optic nerve. Ive still mot taken in the original dx but this is getting out of hand. What should i expect?
Optic neuritis is a really common symptom in MS ![]()
The MSS do a booklet about vision and MS. If you use this link, you can download it for free: http://oscos2.bmc-ics.com/mss2/public/public_stock.php?categoryid=Symptoms_Treatments. There is bound to be an equivalent thing on the MS Trust website too.
I’m afraid no one can tell you what to expect though. Like everything in MS, some people have no or mild problems and some people have severe problems; the rest are somewhere in between. If your optic neuritis is like most, it will get worse but then it will get better. How long that process will take is impossible to say, so try and hold onto the “it will get better” bit!
I hope it doesn’t last very long at all.

Hi there, what you have got is optic neuritis… often referred to just as ON. It is quite common with with MS esp I believe with RRMS. Sometimes it is a person’s first symptom. It can of course be caused by other things but if you have MS then it is most probably the MS that’s caused it.
For many people it is a temporary condition that will clear up on its own and not leave lasting damage. It might not get any worse than it is right now.
It can be more severe and last much longer but fingers crossed yours is temporary and won’t cause too many problems.
It’s such a shock being dx with MS (esp if you weren’t expecting it). My advice would be to take it ‘one day at a time’. Remember, MS is different for each of us so don’t look at other people’s symptoms and assume you’ll get them too… or that your ON will cause any major problems.
Hope you’re coping ok,

Ok thanks guys.
And Pat i kind of knew about June this year what it was, although i still have not got to grips with dx.
I imagine it will hit home when i get onto the injections, as right now ive got alot of other things going on what with family and work
