optic neuritis

currently, since January stricken by optic neuritis. 4 days in hospital, but now at home. No improvement, still very blurred vision, no colours. Also: no neurologist or medical care to follow up stay in hospital…feeling pretty desperate.

Phone your ms nurse and/or the MS society helpline after the bank holiday. There may be nothing they can do though but just wait for it to go away. So much waiting in this disease as so much is unknown Hope you feel better soon xx

Please don’t panic. (I know… Easier said than done ;)) 18 months before diagnosis (ie 2 years ago) I developed optic neuritis and lost virtually all sight in my left eye. It was very frightening but the optic a&e consultant I saw assured me that although there was no treatment he could give me, it would correct itself. It took a few weeks but my sight returned fully and there was no residual damage. Try and accept the temporary weirdness but know that it will pass. And I agree, contact your M&S nurse so she’s aware and for reassurance. Kaz xxx

thank you for your response - yea, I am trying not to panic, but just find it so ubsettling - is this going to stay with e for te rest of my life? :frowning:

I was admitted into hospital for 2 weeks before I was diagnosed with MS, back in1978 and it initially turned out to be optic neuritis. I was given a course of injections. (Not nice I know) but it cleared up and I havn’t suffered since. The drug was called Synacthen Depot. Hope that helps. Good luck. Trevor x

I woke with double vision & optic neuritis and I was worried it would never improve, but my eyes are back to normal although it took some time. As others have said try not to panic ( hard I know ) Gray

My ON lasted from mid October to about Christmas and the only residual issue is that the colours aren’t quite the same. But I can’t see that unless I shut one eye and look through the other and vice versa.

It should improve by itself, but I know how frustrating and upsetting it can be.

Keep your chin up xx
