Hi folks and a happy new year - just out of interest, does anyone do any cold water swimming - lakes or beach - it’s supposed to be very good but mind you in this frosty weather, the thought of it…brrrrrrrrr. Just wanted folks thoughts or experiences - thanks
Cold showers are enough excitement for me, thanks!
Not for the first time, I agree with Alison and find a cold shower definitely puts a spring in my step. Doing backstroke in the shower is a rather safer option than swimming with sewage.
Did this inspire you?
Same here maybe - have tried it and managed it ok
Tend to agree whammel - Lough Neagh in the middle of Northern Ireland basically is a septic tank - cold shower it is then - Love Dr Michael Mosley BTW
While it’s not for me, I certainly don’t underestimate the value of a social activity in the great outdoors. This article in the Guardian deals with warmer months, but has some useful links to local groups, and surfers against sewage, who provide an up to date list of areas affected by sewage.
Just in case we haven’t put you off entirely.

Thanks for that - we actually have a new fresh water centre opened nearby - old disused quarry supplied by natural springs which everyone says is very clean - thanks for info
I live by the sea…
There used to be a group called The Blue Tits round here…
A bunch of redoubtable ladies who threw themselves into the foaming briny on a daily basis…
They were “featured” in a local ad mag, but had to change their name for the sake of moral rectitude…
Their group doesn’t sound as much fun now…
There’s no one out today…
Err…
Correction, appears to be 10 heads bobbing in the freezing, grey waves…
Think there is a group of hardy swimmers over here called the same - brilliant name
Something similar over here good for them
