Foot drop SAFO

Hi Guys

I’ve just noticed in MS Matters an advert for SAFO, obviously I have now looked into what it can do. Trying to suppress my excitement does anyone have any knowledge of the price? It sounds good, looks good …

Take care, be safe M x

The good news is that it is fairly comfortable and works quite well. The bad news is that it was about £500 ten years ago, so must be over £700 today. Not as good as FES in my opinion.

Thank you for that I needed someone who knows and has an opinion. Take care M

l have had a SAFO - for nearly ten years. lt is a real help - so comfortable - and hard-wearing. l can wear it with most shoes -[ or no shoes] - but not with boots. l also have a FES - which does help - but is much more of a fiddle to get right. ln fact you can use both together. Trouble with both of them is - they are OK if you are wearing jeans/trousers - not such a good look with a dress or skirt. Unless it is a long skirt.

l had an appointment with an orthotist at my local hospital - for a type of splint to help with foot-drop. And he told me about the SAFO - although he could not get me one through the NHS - at the time. So l arranged for this orthotist to come to my house as he lived close by - and he did the plaster cast of my foot/ankle. Which the SAFO was then modelled from. lt cost me about £675 then - but it has been worth every penny.

What is safo and fes

I have a ‘boxia’ to help with my foot drop and a fixed brace both supplied by the NHS. I also got a shot at a FES but that didn’t work for me. Maybe try to search google and take the info to your GP, being referred to an Orthortist by either the GP or who ever deals with your MS? This website as information on all of this so does the MS Trust website

Information/knowledge is power know what is out there and get vocal. Good luck
