Hi I wonder if anyone can help me decide what to do. I am as yet undiagnosed so will not be eligible for the free flu jab from the nhs. I have arranged to get one at my local Morrison’s pharmacy this afternoon but am starting to have second thoughts.
I am at the moment coming out of the other side of what I believe to be a ms relapse and am worried that having the jab will set my recovery back and do more harm than good.
I am signed off work at the moment so fortunately don’t need to worry about getting to work at the moment and dont want to miss my opportunity to get the jab, as I’m aware that they’re only available for a short period of time.
I definitely think i will go ahead and get the jab done. I work in a school so the risks for me are pretty high. We used to get it done for free through the local council but with the recent budget cuts this is one of the things they have decided to stop funding.
Mind you it is only costing £7.00 to get it done at my local Morrison’s. Could be the best £7.00 I’ve ever spent if it saves me from a bout of flu this winter!!
Not diagnosed as yet but neuro I saw a couple of weeks ago was very down to earth and agreed that in his opinion the symptoms I.m experiencing are most likely due to ms.
Waiting for an appointment for an mri scan, which hopefully shouldn’t be much longer.
Have definitely decided to go ahead with the flu jab.
Thanks for the advice ladies it has definitely helped me make my decision.
Ask if you can get it on the NHS! I know it doesn’t cost a fortune to have it privately, but why pay, when they may do it?
My local surgery seemed quite vague that people with MS should be having it anyway. It was me that brought it to their attention, and they said: “Oh, is that some auto-immune thingy?”, and although that’s NOT the reason we’re recommended to have it, I thought it would be simplest just to say yes, and they said: “OK then”.
So eligibility screening wasn’t exactly rigorous!
Just tell them that people with chronic neuro conditions are advised to have it, and that although you don’t yet have a formal diagnosis, you’re suspected of having MS. That may be enough to do the trick.
good luck with the diagnosis process. Hope you get answers soon.
If you work in school the flu jab is a must with all those germs! kids coughing and spluttering all over the place! lol!! My kids are always catching something!!
Babyjane, didn’t have the best weekend but I think that’s cos I was feeling better Saturday and went and did too much. did all the ironing in the morning then went out and had coffee with the girls. came home at tea time and had to lie down for a couple of hours!! How are you, well I hope? I’m still waiting for my appointment too!!! The NHS isn’t normally known for speed is it?
Anitra, have decided just to go ahead and get it done privately. It’s probably easier and quicker than waiting for an appointment with doc etc. Heading off quite soon to get it done at my local Morrisons.
Teresa, you’re right there. I’m working with the P1s at the moment and they are certainly not known for their good personal hygiene , bless them!!!
