Feeling Very down last few months

I have been feeling very down for the last few months.

So hard to stay positive.

I have up my vit D to 2000 a day but still low a lot of the time.

I am not seeing my consultant until May and I am not under the MS team at the moment.

Do I need to report how I am feeling to the consultant? or just see the doctor when I can.

I really dont want to see the doctor, just think they will say i need anti depressions tablets

I went to my doctor years ago about listlessness and saw a psychiatrist who put me on antidepressants. A month later he said I didn’t need to see him again. A couple of years later I went to my GP who took one look at me and prescribed them again. I wasn’t depressed, just cronicly fatigued. Seemingly its a treatment for fatigue.

Hi TeddyBear1.

No, I dont think the consultant needs to know this just now.
Your GP may want to give you anti depressants, so if you’d rather not have any, then leave it, as you may be feeling much better by May…I do hope so sweetheart.

I’ve had PPMS 25 years and am quite badly affected and need help for almost everything, from carers and hubby.

18 months ago I felt extremely low and didnt know how to carry on.
I asked God for help…and lo and behold! I got it.

I became a born again Christian, got baptised and feel so much better with Jesus by my side. He will help you too, but you have to ask.

Look after yourself and God bless.

thank you Bouds, I am a Christian.

Have you watched the series The Chosen? I really love it.

Love the part when Jesus walks on water and Simon joins him and goes under.

Jesus saves him and Simon says “never let me go”

I have been praying " never let me go alot too lately.

I take Vit D3 too, but I don’t think they on their own would do the heavy lifting on my mood either.

It is probably worth a chat with the GP about your low mood. I don’t know what age you are, but hormonal changes like the (peri)menopause can be a cause, so don’t assume that anti-depressants are automatically the only go-to - it might be HRT that you need. Or, as in my own case, both. Personally, I just want to feel OK, and am pretty open-minded about how to go about it. Medication is part of the picture for me. But so are lots of other things like time in nature, such exercise as I’m able for, good food and plenty of sleep. For me, the lifestyle things are great, but they’re not enough on their own, and I’m OK with that. I hope that you find your own path to feeling a little better.

Hi alison

Thank you for your reply. I am now 58 but when through the menopause at 41 straight after last daughter being born.

I am worried that the low mood may be a sign of a relapse but I cannot see that anywhere?

Do get out into the daylight and sunshine, for a little while every day. It is possible that the ‘winter blues’ from not enough daylight are not helping. The very beneficial near-infrared light is blocked by low E glass - so you do need to get outside, or if you have good old fashioned glass in your windows it does come through that. Also we used to get some from the old incandescent lights, but the LED ones do not emit it. Similarly live fires give off near-infrared, but central heating does not. It may help tip the balance in your mood in the right direction.
