Hi All,
I write this with a feeling of selfish ignorance and previous avoidance of things.
In the shortest explanation possible, approximately 10 years ago I was in an RTA which resulted in a moment of flat lining and being placed in an induced coma (sorry for any and all incorrect spellings / grammar)
When I was brought round I had no feelings or sensation from waist down which was a difficult time.
(Luckily I only broke my collar bone, and three fingers and my motorcycle helmet and airbag leathers must have done their job to a degree.)
I had all the usual procedures, scans etc carried out at different stages and In some cases a couple of times due to localised swelling in areas etc.
They found i had displaced a couple of vertebrae in my lower back which I underwent a procedure for… After 4-6 weeks I started getting feeling and use of my legs again.
Prior to and after this accident I had been to my GP at the time because I had been getting spells of pins and needles feeling mostly in one leg, arm and side of body along with a trembling on the same side in my hand… They had pre accident put this down to anxiety, diet due to my history of anorexia and collapse they described to be potentially a mini stroke but after follow ups I was signed off healthy enough to ride, drive etc etc but to note anything I felt wasn’t normal or similar to pre collapse.
The results from after my crash were documented in my results and further monitoring requirements to be spinal something (I can’t remember the exact name)… And that one requirement was for my GP to refer me for specialist tests for potential MS.
It took a while but I attended an appointment for the following things;
Dye injection
CT MRI
Electric stimulation/ current which I believe measured my reactions
I didn’t attend an appointment for the sample from my spine LPuncture due to attending a funeral
But then had an consultation with a different person who carried out a series of tests including my toes, fingers, knee reflexes, hand coordination and had me walk a few steps… He (in my opinion) was blunt in the way he told me I was within parameters, too young to have MS and would benefit from exercising and symptoms being more anxiety. I was in and out of the consultation within 10 minutes.
I had got myself back into a position physical condition as I contracted still as a paid footballer and youth coach. My club had even covered expenses for extra private health care.
The scans came back with a different response to what I was ever expecting and they found need to have me return to hospital 3 weeks later when they had reviewed them, but for potential cancer in my neck and head.
I never disclosed this to my club, but I did stop riding and driving respectfully and made excuses as to why. I lost confidence due to the consultation I was dismissed so easily from and thought sod it get on with life attitude.
Over recent years I have experienced bowel issues which my new GP (changed due to my relocation) has put down to being IBS, I still experience pins and needles, loss of function of my legs now both more one than the other, I still experience tremors, loss of grip, tightness especially around my chest area and accompanying pins and needles to… They don’t seem to have regular patterns, triggers that I am aware of, but are more noticeable not only to me but others and has resulted in me failing medical tests for my football career…
I’ve also been told that MS is not hereditary and I was told this due to the fact my mother was diagnosed.
I know I need to do the right thing with facing the head and neck scans etc… but from people’s experience are my other symptoms in opinion one I should question to have re-evaluate for MS or other, and is there any recommendations in the north west of England private or not worth going to as I don’t have confidence in my current GP who ignored the fact these things are on my records and only decided to target mental health when diagnosing my bowel issues as IBS with no follow up or anything.
