Feeling low

Hi everyone,

I haven’t posted here for a couple of years, but am feeling so low today that I wanted to ask for any help or advice.

About 6 years ago I started getting strange goosepimples and numb itchy patches. Since then, every few months or so, I’ll get what I call a ‘flare up’ with these symptoms:

Random patches of goosepimples

Itchy numb patches

Muscle pains and pulled muscles

Catching foot on steps

Brain fog and fatigue

A vibrating ear drum

Muscle twitches

Inability to form a sentence

Choking on saliva

Urinary urgency

Restless legs

I have been to see two neurologists and they have told me it’s not MS. I don’t have the energy to fight any longer towards a diagnosis and think maybe they are right.

My MRI showed 2 small white spots, which the latest neurologist said was perfectly normal for someone my age (44).

They also said I showed hyperreflexia.

Should I perservere, or just wait and see what happens? I don’t know what to do for the best.

Thank you for any advice x

I can only sympathise with you.

Neurologists are very good at stating the obvious and telling you what you have`nt got.

What about telling you what you have got.

I would push for further investigation. There are other conditions that mimic many MS symptoms, so you need to know what you’re dealing with and what, if anything, can be done about it.

keep a diary of all your symptoms - when they occur, how long they last, severity etc then you’ll have something to show them as a history.

Have you only had an MRI? No other tests?

Thank you

I had nerve conduction tests, which came back normal.

I’ve been going to the GP every time I had a flare, to make sure it’s recorded. Just not sure whether I can deal with another dismissive neuro.

He even said to me (in front of two trainee doctors) “What do you take the Citalopram for?” As if he didn’t know. Oh, I get depression so it must be all in my head…
