This is an interesting topic that has made me thing about the effects certain things have on us. For instance the Fear after falling**.** Sometimes I see elderly people walking around with little steps. Read more: http://www.amazon-lady.com

Hi Deborah
yes, falls certainly unnerve everyone, doesn’t seem to get any easier, in fact it’s the complete opposite, takes away any confidence you have.
staying on the same theme, why not think about having a care line, it’s very cheap, and you contact your local authority. I have one as a bracelet, but you can also have a necklace, you wear when you are alone, and if you should fall, it’s just a case of pressing your button, and help is summoned. Not only does it give me confidence, but also my husband has peace of mind.
good luck with your new medication, hope it does exactly what you want.

Yep I have got a Careline give Heather peace of mind when she leaves me home alone, since I have had it I haven’t fallen but I have been stuck on the floor a few times prior to that. It’s not the falling that worries me it’s those pesky landings. When u was roofing I fell off a few roofs and got up and walked away. But I once fell six feet broken leg in traction and six months off work.

Because I’m not on any benefits, my local authority want £9 per week for that. I also discovered it wouldn’t cover the whole garden, so I got a key safe & use my mobile if needed. Half a dozen people have the code just in case. Total cost £31.
some days I fall over several times, apparently I have a decent commando roll, but no dignity. I’m using a walker increasingly which does add confidence and reduces crashes.
it does give me, friends & family peace of mind, so worth it.

Deborah, I think we’re all wary of falling. My Elk has only been used once because the other times I’ve either been out or alone in the house. There is an element of comedy in the action of getting up but like you I worry about breaking bones. I’m spending more time in my electric wheelchair indoors now. It gives me some assurance. Good news about the medication though. I’m still on my strict diet but struggling to get below 14 stone. I won’t give up.
Best wishes, Steve. x

Hello Deborah, I always love your blogs Its funny i always have a real envy of the ones older than me, i secretly watch in wonderment how they keep there balance while carrying shopping or walking their dogs… its funny i took it for granted all my life and although iv’e got some mobility in my house outside i’m rubbish, but on the plus side i have good bones and iv’e fallen loads of times and never broken anything.

I’m well padded and I reckon that’s what stopped me breaking any bones. Had some spectacular falls back in the day.
Life is safer in my wheelchair and hoist!
I remember saying to my daughter once that I’d had a fall and that it was the first for a long time.
She asked if I was just checking to see if I could still do it! Keep safe guys!
