Face planting

Hello you lovely people

Over the last week or so when I’m walking I trip over my left foot. It’s as if I’m not lifting my foot up properly. It’s happened so much I’ve got a hole on the top of my shoe!

Thank goodness for my little companion sticky, he has stopped me from planting my face on the floor quite a few times! Does this sound like the foot dropping thing I have read about on here?

Seeing my ms nurse thursday to discuss starting to take dmd’s so will mention it to him but was just curious.

Thanks all

Its probably exactly that, i get it, annd allways results in a sprain, lat time 8 months back it was a break

Hi Freckles,

Yes - it very much sounds like you’re getting “foot-drop” !

Definately worth informing your MS Nurse when you see him tomorrow !

Hopefully, he can recommend how this issue can best be addressed (…‘foot-up’ brace, FES …etc etc) ??

Good luck,

Dom

hi freckles

yes it sounds like foot drop.

but dont worry because they’ll be able to offer you something.

now i’m singing “hole in my shoe” letting in water…

probably way before your time

Hi Freckles

Yes, that’s the one. I only get it now when I’ve walked too far and my feet turn into lead.

Yesterday, my son needed to borrow my car as his is in for service and MOT so I had to walk the 1 km to work (a 15 minute walk). Getting there wasn’t too bad although I was huffing and puffing and my stick saved me a couple of times when I had a couple of wobbly moments.

Coming home was a different matter as I was already fatigued. I’m on antibiotics for a suspected UTI as well so my legs and feet lose feeling that bit quicker at the moment. I hadn’t even gone half way when I couldn’t feel my feet and they turned into lead so they wouldn’t come up far enough and I was scuffing the pavement and tripping and stumbling. Thank goodness for Gloria, my stick. (I will survive  )

I needed a good nap after that walk. Thank goodness my son has a day off today and, all being well, he will have his own car back tomorrow. I don’t think I can manage the walk any more this week. Shame really, as I could spare a few pounds and I’m sure it counts as aerobic exercise when it gets my heart racing so much!

Hope your nurse can make some useful suggestions tomorrow. Have you see a neuro physio by the way? I have some very useful exercises which have really helped with my balance issues.

yep, classic footdrop hun.

When I read your posts title, I wondered if it shouldve read face painting.

Hi All

thanks for the replies. There’s greedy I am having all these things happening to me!

Hey ssamm hope I don’t break anything, hubby would need a crane to get me about!

Dom what does FES stand for? Is it Freckles Extra Special!

Carole I knew straight away the song you were on about. Didn’t the Young Ones cover it? Oh and by the way it was first released 3 years before I was born!

Tracey I saw a physiotherapist two years ago referred by ms team, would that have been neuro physio?

Hey Poll maybe if I painted my face it would hide the scars from where I’ve fallen and knocked myself out! (Must surely be an easier way to get a facelift!!)

Regards all

Indeed it would, Freckles. If you still have their contact details, it might be worth getting in contact again or ask the MS team to refer you back. There might be some exercise you can do that could help. I’m sure I read in one of the MS Society’s leaflets that it is better to seek help when we first have problems so that they don’t escalate. (I read that a little late considering that a neuro discharged me from hospital with my second relapse when I could only just walk again after IV steroids and didn’t consider referring me to physio!! If only I had known my rights back then … )

By the way, how did your appointment go with your nurse? It was today wasn’t it?

Hi Tracey

My appt is at 1.30pm. It will be interesting to see what he thinks about new symptoms. I’ve been to see stress councillor today about ongoing issues at work, and it’s surprising how emotions can affect your physical wellbeing.

Hi Freckles,

I must apologise for not making this clear (…and Lord knows I get cross when others assume I know what their abbreviations stand for !! ); FES means “Functional Electrical Stimulation” - a device with a control box that normally fits over the belt, and two electrode pads with a sticky gel layer that attach over lower leg muscles (…shin and side of knee, in my case) to provide current to the muscles making them contract the way they should naturally…

That said, I do like your version of what FES could stand for !!

Dom

It’s officiaI love my ms nurse!

He’s started the process for me to take rebif

He agreed with all you clever people and said I’m having drop foot (Not like I thought it was called foot dropping!)
he’s referring me to physio to help with it.

Not only that I told him of the harrasment I’m having in work and he is writing a letter of support saying how much all the stress is affecting me!

Happy days!

Hi,

This is Very Good Information I Agree

I looked at this link but don’t understand what I’m meant to be looking at.

Hi Freckles!

Blatant advertising opportunity me thinks! When I venture onto the MS forum, I really have no interest in perusing Evince Technology Ltd’s ventures into renewable energy generation. Or am I too missing something?

Oops messed that reply up but thanks Val!

What a great result, Freckles!

Well actually 3 great results. I had nearly 4 years without a relapse on Rebif, and I didn’t find the side effects too bad either. Hope it goes really well for you. Keep us posted re the other things especially re the horrible colleague.
