I’m thinking of starting some sort of exercise regime and wondering really what sort of exercise is better. I’ve heard that yoga and Pilates are good in ms but is that the case and how much is too much? I really don’t want to over do it and feel c**p, thanks x
both pilates and yoga are based on improving your own performance.
it shouldnt be about bending further, just as far as you are comfortable with.
my instructors were great, always started the class by asking if anyone had any ailments or injuries and then advised them on how to proceed.
i havent been to a class for quite a while because i’m plagued with UTIs and feel rubbish.
i could really do with a good stretch though
good luck, you’ll enjoy it

Yoga has been the best thing I’ve ever done I never done anything like that in my life when I got MS a friend asked me to try yoga our MS society runs for MS I gave it a go Its either done in a chair even wheelchairs or laying down you have to listen to your own body and reach a level your comfortable I go twice a week yoga led to me being able to go to the gym now.
The relaxion thats linked into the yoga class is amazing I’d give it a go and see what you think.
I’ve never tried Pilates but I heard that is very good to.

Hi
Unfortunately there is no advice that is applicable to everyone with MS as MS is so different from person to person.
However exercise is generally considered to be good for MS and yoga and pilates can certainly help.
There are different forms of yoga. You may find it helpful to contact the British Wheel of Yoga http://www.bwy.org.uk/ to find a local teacher. It may also be helpful to ring and discuss your health issues with the teacher beforehand and make sure they are able to deal with your issues. If possible ask if you can have a 1 to 1 session first to assess your problems. Also ask for an initial trial sessions with the class to make sure it’s right for you.
You may also find this information from the MS Society helpful.

Good Luck!

Thanks guys x
Pilates has done me the world of good. But just make sure you find a good instructor who understands your condition/symptoms. It took me 4 attempts but I have now found a wonder of an instructor, she is so watchful over how I move and adapts exercises for me due to the ms and a back condition I have X
My neurophysio was particularly enthusiastic about pilates and how many of its exercises are good for MSers. Teresa xx
