Hi I posted that back in November I had been found by ATOS fit for work and placed in the WRAG group. They even sent me a P45 to give to my new employer. I have SPMS. I had not at that point had the so called medical assessment and was going to just accept my fate. Then I read in Benefits and Work that the ATOS assessment centre in Norwich where I live was the very building that I had spent 10 years working in for Norwich Health Authority, on the 2nd floor! And more importantly, I knew it DIDN’T HAVE A BLOODY LIFT, ONLY STAIRS. I am now a full time wheelchair user and phoned them and said I would be asking a BBC film crew to attend my medical assessment because I wanted to see how they were going to get me to their offices - bodily carry me up the stairs or man handle me sitting in my wheelchair? Why does a DISABILITY assessment team have their offices and rooms on the 2nd floor of a building with no disabled access??? You couldn’t make this stuff up. I have since received a letter from theDWP/job centre that my case has been reviewed and I have been placed in the support group and would not be called for another assessment for two years. No medical and no wait for an appeal - all done and reassessed in about 4 weeks. WTF… I was not expecting that! I was preparing for a fight, and a public one at that. Tracy (still in shock)
Well done Tracey.THEY are not geared up for a fight,so just rollover. This time last year I wanted IV 'roids in the local hospital as a day patient as opposed to making three 30 mile round trips to Walton Neuro, where THEY want me to.I got in touch with a reporter at the Liverpool Echo, she saw how ridiculous it was,and let me use her name to threaten the Deputy Director of the PCT.Guess where I got the 'roids.
I think that individuals should think about their situation, and if it would interest the media,“Go for it”.You’ve demonstrated how to do it,and I’m sure the ‘shock’ will turn into a nice warm glow.
Excellent, Wb x
Hello Tracy and thank you for letting people know about your Orwellian ordeal. I am relieved that it is now resolved.
Whilst I am, of course, very happy on your account, it’s (almost) a shame that such a film was never made… As you say, it simply beggars belief that a disability assessment office has no disabled access! I suppose it makes life easier for the gormless ATOSSERS, to claim that we “did not attend”, if we can’t get up the frigging stairs?
Non-consensual touching is, of course, assault, so we can add THAT to their growing list of criminality.
Smiling grimly
John
if i have my way the government and atos will pay for what they are doing to disabled people
