Hiya Trish, I get tired arms, mostly, after eating, especially main meal at night, the last few bits of dinner I really struggle to hold the cutlery, never mind picking up the food, yet an hour or so later everything is okay, could stop eating I suppose…nah, dinny be daft, Brian
l have always found eating grain - bread/pastry/pasta/biscuits etc and other carbs make me tired. Apparently, it does take a lot of ‘energy’ for your body to digest. l know l am much better if l keep to a ‘gluten-free’ diet - but often temptation wins.
I’ve been struggling with fatigue a lot lately and have been starting to doze off at my desk mid afternoon - v embarrassing in a busy office. My old ms nurse recommended coffee and lucozade which worked at first but has gotten less effective. My new nurse has suggested cutting back on carbs in my lunch because of the energy used like spacejacket mentions so I’ve tried that this week and it has helped quite a bit. I’m finding it more difficult to plan meals in advance as sandwiches were my staple and whilst I eat a lot of salads, I don’t find them filling without a carb on the side. Have had hearty soups this week and they’ve made a nice change, so I’ll be researching some other lower carb options I think ![]()
Angua,
Have a google of ‘Barry Groves’ his books on healthy diet - are all about High Fat - Low Carb. He started back in the early 80’s - and recently Dr Terry Wahls has had lots of interest in her eating regime - which is the same as Barry Groves. Plenty of protein but no grain.
Try using thin slices of ham/chicken/cheese as the ‘bread’ of your sandwiches with salad in the middle to take for lunch. l think carbs are addictive - lf you have a box of doughnuts or a packet of biscuits - not many of us can eat just one - l suppose it is the sugar - but it is difficult to stop at one.
A handful of almonds is a good snack - full of goodness.
Hi. I too find a carb heavy diet affects my ms. Good in so many ways to read others experience similar joy x
Do you feel tired after eating both cold and hot things? If I eat something hot, my fatigue becomes much worse - sometimes I can hardly walk! But this is heat sensitivity rather than eating per se. I stick to cold things in warmer weather when I’m in the office at least.
thanks for the replies no hot or cold, carb or protein, makes no difference
Thanks for the suggestion, spacejacket - I’ll check that out.
