Do your meds help with imbalance?.

Hello.

I’m still awaiting my tests results for MS and so not on any medications or treatments yet.

I was off work for 9 months when my Trigeminal Neuralgia became constant and unmanageable, (dark days) but recently went back on “phased return” after 2 Gamma knife procedures

I kind of managed up until recently but balance problems, Fatigue and a general feeling that I’d been beaten up increased as the workload grew (it’s grounds maintenance so physical).

I love my job as it’s outside and I made this career move after years of retail work stuck indoors.

I also used to love outdoor activities and was wondering if any of the various treatments given are of any benefit re balance and motor issues or are they geared toward pain management.

I see there are lots of different meds, are these for the root cause or to deal with the differing symptoms?

I’m of work at the moment as it’s effecting me quite a bit (I managed one full week where I almost felt normal).

I was hoping to get back to health after the TN and wasn’t expecting to come out the other end with a possible MS diagnosis.

I’m a keen cyclist and desperate to get back to it but it doesn’t look likely the way I am at the moment.

Its not knowing if my expectations are too high that’s the problem.

All the best.

The best thing to help improve balance is to work on building core strength, because it’s what keeps you upright. Try what you can manage. Core stability exercises (a pilates type approach) | MS Trust Have you considered getting a trike?

Hi Whammel

I used rollers for winter training and remember it being stated as good for core strength (but didn’t look into that aspect at the time) so I’ll do some NON bikeroller exercises (otherwise things could go very wrong as I remember it was tricky enough when I was ok) and then maybe dust em off and have a tentative go if things pick up.

I have thought about a trike (even before this, for luggage capacity etc) but my bike storage (extension) is normal door width so not sure if it’s feasible, but if needs be, where there’s a will there’s a way, and there is a will!

So it’s not just a case of when it’s gone, it’s gone.

That’s good to hear and as long as I know that I’ll keep sneaking in a sucker punch.

All the best.
