Hi, i was diagnosed with RRMS last month and was wondering if i would be eligible for anything.
My last relapse was quite bad, i couldn’t walk properly for weeks, severe fatigue, and very weak arm ( I couldn’t hold anything). Luckily i have recovered since coming out of hosptial and i am back to my usual self (minus fatigue).
I had to take a lot of time off work. Unfortunately my work only provides sick pay for 2 weeks. After that just the governemnt sick pay. Now that i am immunocompromised from tysabri, i am likely to need time off work in the future. Could i apply for any help? My salary will be hit hard from this disease and i struggle as it is.
I think I would try calling the MS Society helpline. They are probably familiar with your situation and will know the various options and be able to advise you
More likely to get better handling by your employer. Are they aware of your diagnosis?
OT’s, either in-house or contracted, may recommend changes to your work environment to make your work more doable.
“Disability benefits” don’t treat RRMS kindly. Called PIP, it tends to focus on your best (non-relapsing) state, not your worst, which could be very occasional. PIP shouldn’t be regarded as “compensation” for having a disease label.
PIP is a bit arbitrary imho, if you get awarded it then that’s great, but if you don’t then you can always try and apply again if your MS symptoms get worse.
Best,
JP
